Gordon’s Café in Yountville (I think

it is lunch only) had, as of a month ago the yummiest sesame salad.  It

normally has noodles in it, but just ask them to leave it off.  If you call

ahead and speak to the owner (who is really nice & very understanding &

thorough with answering questions and insuring your food is safe, as she has a

peanut allergy herself.

I think there is another GF friendly restaurant

in town (Yountville), but I remember them being super pricey.  If you go to www.celiac.com and go the message board, then

go to the sub forum that has to do with restaurants and do a search for Napa restaurants, it will

come up somewhere in there.

Hope you have good luck, and please report

back any interesting finds.  My dad lives in the valley, and we go up often –

usually I am stuck having a few pieces of cheese out of his fridge to tide me

over until I get back to the city.

Oh, Gordon’s Café is in the North

end of town on Washington Street,

in a green building across from the gas station.

I'm going

on a trip to Yosemite and then Napa

this

week and I was wondering if there were any gluten-free

friendly restaurants in those areas.

Thanks,

I was in Yosemite a few weeks ago. We had lunch at the hotel in Wawona and it was excellent. They had many organic choices and definitely knew what was in their food. I felt safe eating there and didn't get glutened. I don't know of anything specific in Napa, but I know they have lots of upscale restaurants, and those tend to be much better at helping us. They also have an outdoor mall downtown with a ton of options to choose from. Hope that helps a little.

When I went to yosemite, I stayed at the yosemite bug, which is a hostel. Not sure if they've reopened 140, if they haven't, its probably pretty inconvenient. The woman who is I think the manager or something has a friend who is celiac and is very knowledgable and doesn't mind double checking things. They have a cheesecake with some sort of GF crust and also many main dishes that have no GF ingredients (the fish is really good!)

Yosemite

Well, even though I called ahead no one seemed to know

what I was talking about at Curry Village and the chef

at The Yosemite Lodge Mountain Room never called me

back.

In Curry Village, the food was overpriced and not very

good. It was like everything had come out of a can.

And no one knew what the ingredients were. At least

when I called ahead the food and service manager could

tell me what was going to be on the menu there and

steered me into the right direction. I had fish and

vegetables with corn on the cob and some pudding for

dessert.

The Mountain Room was better, but they could only

offer me a steak and a baked potato, which was lovely,

but I so wanted to try the chicken. I was lucky that

the dessert that evening was a chocolate creme brulee

and had no crust at all.

On the other hand, the Yosemite Lodge's breakfast was

exactly what you would expect, eggs, bacon, potatoes,

toast, which they assemble while you watch so I could

tell them that I didn't want toast at all. (The grill

for the pancakes is in a completely different area,

too.)

Napa

We ate at the Boonfly Cafe, which I had also called

ahead for and when I got there the wait staff had no

idea what I was talking about and had to go back into

the kitchen and speak to the chef. I had chicken with

vegetables and another creme brulee because I knew

that the wedding would have no food for me whatsoever.

The food at Boonfly was very good, but my husband did

not like the Kobe beef burger. I was just happy to be

able to eat something other than a salad.

So, if we ever go back up to Yosemite again, I hope to

try out other food places, but I know that the

Yosemite Lodge breakfast and the Mountain Room will at

least make some accomodation.
