Guest guest
I have been a fan of Southern Indian cuisine for a long time. Dosas, the crepes made from fermented urad dal lentils and rice are one of my favorite things, especially with coconut chutney. Well, today we went to a great Indian market in order to stock up on some spices and of course ready to eat indian meals, and I made an exciting discovery! Namaste Foods, in Mountain View,Ca has ready to use dosa batter in their refrigerator case! I've always wanted to make dosas- even tried once or twice, with mixed success. Well, this stuff is so easy! you just add a little water (or not) and make the crepes, and fill them with whatever you like. Tonight I made a homemade potato (masala) filling, coconut chutney from scratch (ok, the coconut was frozen from our asian market, what a timesaver! but the rest of ingredients were fresh),homemade mango lassi (very easy, actually!), and then sambar (spicy accompanying soup) from a ready made pouch. What a feast! This place has a great selection of GF frozen indian Meals (including idli!), a good refrigerated section with yogurt, paneer and beverages, really cheap indian sealed meals (1/3 the price of the health food store)- and they have a deal where if you buy two, you get one free (by one brand only), lots of dals, wonderful ice creams, a good rice selection, spices... flours as well. I highly recommend it if you have the time and happen to be in the area.
