Guest guest
Hi , Soldevilla used to be at OHSU in the dept of Neurosurgery, and I haven't heard anything but positive about him. I don't know that it matters that much, however, as in this case where you have already done the selection, any competent surgeon should be able to help your patient significantly. Freeman Recommendation needed I have a patient with a large paracentral disc extrusion at L5-S1 and broad-based protrusion resulting in Left S1 nerve root entrapment, along with moderately severe stenosis of the neural foramina bilaterally. I will be referring for a surgical consult, patient requested to be sent to NW Neurosurgical Associates to see Dr Soldevilla. Looking for a recommendation regarding NW Neurosurgical Associates, Dr Soldevilla, MD for a Lumbar Disc patient. Please respond off-list with positive or negative comments. Thanks, J. Guest guest
There is some evidence that Fleet and other sodium phosphates can, in rare instances, cause kidney problems. My doctor and I discussed this, and I decided to go with the somewhat safer version, the one that requires you to drink a large quantitiy of the liquid. I can't remember its name just now. I've done it three times, and I haven't found drinking it to be a real problem. Making sure I have privacy and a bathroom to myself sometimes IS a problem. Last time, I checked into a motel to make sure I could be alone at unpleasant moments. It was well worth it. The kidney failure risk with sodium phosphates is very low, but I have enough physical problems already. I didn't want to increase the risk factor just to avoid drinking liquid. H. Guest guest
Just to avoid confusing new people: diagnosis for CD doesn't require a colonoscopy. The biopsy requires examination of the upper intestine, and that's done through and endoscoopy. I don't know of any exceptions to that. As far as I know an endoscopy doesn't require a laxative. You just go in, are sedated (insist on that), have a simple procedure that you're unaware of, and leave after about an hour, no worse for the experience. Regarding colonscopies: once you get past the laxative part, a colonoscopy ought to be painless. The last time I wasn't very heavily sedated, and I have a vague memory of saying crossly, "Don't do that", but usually you have no pain, no involvement, because you're not conscious. And you don't feel bad afterward, or at least I never have. (Sigmoidoscopies are another matter. I have not done well with those, as they're not done under sedation.)
