Transportation from NJ to NY

We will be back to see Dr. H in the beginning of May, and I am

already checking out hotel rates. For whatever reason, the hotel

rates are more expensive at that time than when we went in January.

I am contemplating flying into Newark, and staying in a hotel near

there. I see decent rates for hotels in , NJ. Anyone

familiar with this area? How long is the commute from this area to

Manhattan? I know the NY subway system fairly well, but don't know

anything about the public transportation system in NJ. I'd like to

find out the easiest & least expensive way to get to Manhattan.

Can anyone give me some advice on this? In January, I spent $40 for

taxi fare from LaGuardia to Manhattan & a few dollars less back to

the airport, which was higher than I remembered in the past. I am

looking to trim travel costs, since we will be seeing Dr. H more

frequently now. If you have any advice for me, can you please e-mail
