If the candy is made with real licorice, rather than licorice flavor, those with high blood pressure should probably avoid it. True licorice raises blood pressure significantly, I've heard. I haven't checked to verify this lately, but I think I read this in a New York Times article.

Check out Trader Joe's Black Licorice ie Dogs. We got ours at the

Mountain View TJs in San Center. They are probably available

at other TJs as well. These are made without wheat and have a nice

licorice flavor. The texture is slightly gummier than the wheat-based

variety, but they are quite good.

This same ie Dog Licorice product was also available under a

different brand on close-out at TJ Maxx. We wrote to the candy

company, but they did not write back.

Here's another source for gluten-free licorice: Running Rabbit licorice, which

is available

through www.sonomaspecialtykitchens.com (and other sites featuring gluten-free

foods).

It's natural and uses real licorice. They have four flavors (black, raspberry,

black cherry,

honey-lemon). My children's favorite is honey-lemon. They are located in

Petaluma in

Sonoma County.
