If pets stay out of contaminated areas, they're no problem at all to a mold responder. Amazingly enough, it was the SEVERITY of my hyperreactivity that reached a stage in which I could point at specific molds and discount other benign molds which allowed me a greater freedom than being at the interim lesser " generalized " " Universal Responder " state. It allowed be to start avoiding those particular toxin formers alone and forgetting about the rest. I don't even worry about going into moldy basements anymore, just so long as I don't perceive the " hit " which I associate with Trichothecenes. Did you see my story about the doctor telling me to get rid of my cat in Mold Warriors? I still have the cat. - After I was exposed to the Stachybotrys, my 42 lb. healthy cat: " Spanky " , got sick with an upper respiratory ailment and died quickly. He was only an indoor cat and would love on me after I came home from work. I know he died from the same thing I have and it really is sad. I did not know " mold " could make a person or animal that sick. I am glad you kept your cat. Why did your doctor want you to get rid of your cat in the first place? Guest guest
I have a dog and she is being treated too. Anti-microbial shampoo (twice a week) and by prescription pill. As long as I stay away from original site of contamination (my old apartment) and anything to do with it, I am feeling better. I took a walk in the forest today (lots of mold there) - no problem. The rental car air conditioner doesn't give me problems like my car did. Etc.. Pets can be treated. I also noticed if I take garlic tabs, I level off. Still waiting to see the specialist though. So it will be a few more weeks before I get results and put on full treatment. Guest guest
USDA standards say that 20 parts per million is “gluten-free”. I react to that. Some folks don’t. The Canadian government standards are 0 ppm. So if the Amy’s stuff I’ve had registers at 20 ppm, the USDA still considers it GF. If you read the back of the Mac N Cheese though, it says something along the lines of “allergen warning: this product is manufactured in a facility that processes wheat…” Now, if we could only get OUR government to adopt a “zero tolerance: policy around gluten… From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of cory katt Sent: Wednesday, July 19, 2006 8:05 PM Subject: [ ] Re: cross contamination Thanks, I think it was Amy's, too bad the names are so close! I think its Annie's stuff I've bought before and never had a problem with, now I will look more closely at Amy's! Does anyone know if there are actual laws around labeling a product GF? If there are, we should report products that call themselves GF and are not! I've only been doing this for a few months, I assume the longer I do this, the better I'll get at keeping totally GF. Sometimes I just dont think, like I bought strawberry Mochi's from Trader Joe's (sooooooooooo good) and read the label carefully. The next time I went I bought both strawberry AND chocolate and didn't bother reading the label again! I bit into the chocolate and tasted what seemed to be cookie dough like, I spit it out and read the label, yup, wheat in the chocolate! Guest guest
funney you should say i will smell it. cause i am the only one who smells anything now. I threw out a perfectly working air conditioner cause when i inspected it it was filled with mold. its 8 years old and never had a drop of mold on it. the air conditioner in my living room is on its 3 year and its smells like cat urine. last summer we were going crazy trying to locate the smell. now i know what the smell is from. so that has to go. i can will not leave the stuff at the curb cuse others dont need the mold. otherwise i would offer it up freecycle. my goodness what a darn nighmare. i cant afford to replace all this stuff!! was your landlord held liable for any of your losses? nne [] Re: cross contamination > > My books? no not my books? my photo albums, and some very special to me books are in a book shelf right under the ceiling where the mold " may " be. this is not good. what do we do in this case? my couches - no problem - they are ugly and can go anyway. > > > nne Sorry Roseanne but yes, your books-paper and mold are like magnets. I threw out every single thing I had in my basement-things that I'd saved for 30 years. It was so traumatic that by the end of the day I left my Mom downstairs to supervise the guys doing the work and went upstairs to bed. I just couldn't look at my stuff going out the door anymore. And I LOVE my books! In fact the stuff that was really really precious to me got wrapped up in boxes filled with baking soda (to absorb the smell) and got sent to my Mom's attic. But mostly everything got sent to the curb (where, this being Queens, promptly got picked up by passing cars and people! I was glad to give my books and stuff new homes!) You have to be ruthless because if you bring any mold with you to the next apartment you WILL smell it, it will affect you and you will not know what is going on. I stupidly put ONE small fan in my upstairs closet and for months the mold drove me crazy till I realized it was coming from that plastic fan. I threw it out and immediately felt better. Good luck moving! Surella
Guest guest
Thanks Cheryl, Did you or the mold testers you hired ever test your belongings as well as areas in your home. What measures have they offered for remediation of your belongings? Are there any other possibilites for you to get more thorough assistance with testing and remediation? I hope so. Regards, Sam Cheryl <sunbum256@...> wrote: Sam, I did both. I had mold testing companies, so I thought, but there wasn't any follow up & they tested what I pointed out to them. I, also, bought petri dishes from Mold Help.com(I think!) & did my own testing on suspicious areas & from my vents --------------------------------- You rock. That's why Blockbuster's offering you one month of Blockbuster Total Access, No Cost.
