My son has been on the Casein/Gluten free diet and we want to continue

with that being we saw a huge improvement in a short period of time

with that diet...we have done the IGG food allergy testing and are

only moderately allergic to milk, but are hesitant to get away from

the casein free part of the diet. Is there a true dairy free way of

this diet? or do you still have to use the milk for the diet in order

to make the yoghurt?

You aren't required to use dairy. Many kids start SCD dairy free.... then some

are indeed able to tolerate SCD yogurt made from goat milk, later on. We usually

don't recommend trialing it until a couple of months on SCD, then we suggest a

very slow introduction... only 1/4 tsp of yogurt to start with. The casein in

SCD yogurt is still present, but the fermentation process really transform those

molecules and makes them easier to digest. Many kids have the greatest problems

with cow dairy, so that's why we recommend goat dairy. For those families who

really want to remain totally dairy free, they can make yogurt from nut milk.

All SCDers need to supplement with l.acidophilus, whether using dairy yogurt,

nut yogurt, or no yogurt.
