Are you sure it is gluten free? I was

under the impression that beer had to be a certain percentage malt (i.e.

sprouted barley) to be called beer.

Come on up to the Berkeley Bowl!

(Ramapo Honey beer)

Hello All,

Just got the news this month that I'm now a member of the

gluten-free club, so my apologies in advance if this is old news for some.

This last weekend I've given away most of the food and

drinks in my house and I'm now starting to restock.

The few online references I found to beer were all from east

coast breweries. Just for grins, I did a search on the BevMo website and

found one brand listed. Of course - it was completely out of stock.

A few email exchanges later, and the results are below. I assume

this is something that any BevMo store could order through their distributor.

Also - any pointers to grocery stores in the Fremont area would be

most welcome. I've been going over to Whole Foods in Redwood City.

Best,

-patrick

Dear ,

Ramapo honey

beer is not a regular stock item in our store

any more; however, I will be more than happy to special order the beer for

you. I will place the order tomorrow morning if you can get back to me

today and let me know how much you would like to order. The may take about

two weeks or so to arrive as the distributor comes up to us from southern

California.

Thanks,

- Receiving manager

If you look at Germany's beer purity law - it is not truly a beer. The 1516 beer purity law limits beer ingredients to malted grain, hops, yeast and water.

As for the Ramapo Honey Beer, more info is here:

http://www.ramapovalleybrewery.com/GlutenFreeDrinkers.html

"The Ramapo Valley Brewery is proud to present its Gluten-free Honey Lager. This beer is brewed without the use of gluten bearing grains. At last, Celiacs (folks with an intolerance for glutens) have a beer they can enjoy worry-free."

Is it going to taste like my favorite stout? Not a chance. But I'm willing to give it a try.
