Long term potentials

I, as another pre-op poster stated, am scared! I have read all the

positives from all of you, and can appreciate them. wrote such

a great post the other day, listing many of them. However, assuming

that everything goes well (I have BMI of 42) withing the first few

years, my concern is for long term outcome and potentials.

Certainly the malabsorption and potential for malutrition and vitamin

deficiences are there, but what about what those deficiencies cause.

(besides the obvious I mean, like osteoporosis). Also, one's organs

and gut will never be the same after this. So my question is, where

are the 15 and 20 year studies. Even 20 yr studies from the distal

gastric bypass seem to be non-existant.

Their seems to be a shortage of these studies. Even the physicians,

like Dr. Mason who first developed the gastric bypass, said their is

a shortage of data. So where are these patients? Is their no data,

because few people live beyond the 10-15-20 years? Where is

everyone??

I am 49. And want to see my grandchildren graduate high school. I

want the DS, but ... god, I am really concerned about years on down

the line. Am I paranoid? Does anyone have info/data on this?

Thanks alot

Patti
