Re: post-op birth control

Dear Lisbeth,

Both my surgeon and my OB/GYN told me NOT to rely on the birth

control pill to protect against pregnancy after my BPD/DS. When I

asked my OB/GYN about continuing the birth control pill after having

surgery, she explained that even very slight fluctuations in the

absorption can cause ovulation. The only way to check if I was fully

absorbing the pill was to take daily blood levels for a cycle and

even that wouldn't be 100% reliable since absorption can vary due to

many factors. I am going to call my OB/GYN and ask her about this

new patch.
