Sue,

I have CIGNA insurance and yes they approved my surgery. I did

however just get an initial denial of the clinic visit - they are

requesting medical necessity for the visit. However, keep in my mind

that all CIGNA plans are different. You will have to submit and see

what they say.

Hi Sue, I too have Cigna, they did not pay for ME. However they have

for others. It all depends upon your policy. If Weight Loss Surgery

is listed as an exclusion they will not pay. ( mine was listed under

KK) I went through three appeals, hired a lawyer and complained to

the NC insurance commission. They didn't budge. I don't want to

discourage you this may not be your case. Many policy's are worded

and managed differently. I have the opportunity to switch policys

for next year. My company offers a self-funded plan, it is at little

higher cost to me, but they have already advised me they will cover

this surgery. If your Cigna policy is a self-funded plan, your

company can have the last say if they will pay for the surgery.

, Denver, NC MGB hopeful since 2/19. Hope to go in January.

PS: Where in No. Carolina do you live? There will be a Western NC

support group meeting on 10/28 in Gastonia. It will be at

Hillbillies right of I85.

My husband had Cigna Health Care of N.C. and they approved both my clinic visit

and my surgery. I have Duke Managed Care also and they denied me flat out and

said that they would not cover the surgery or any complications from it. They

may not know it, but they paid for my pre-op prescriptions and they will be

paying for my post-op ones also. Hey what they don't know won't hurt them. I

mean, how is the pharmacist suppose to know. There are some other Cigna plans

out there that I understand don't cover it, but this one did.

Kathi - Thanks SO much for the information. Everyone

is so nice in this group, that even if I were thin, I

think I'd still have the surgery!!

Hey ,

Besure to start on your packet at the same time. In other words don't wait for

approval from your insurance before you start gathering contacts, and

researching the patient manual, and getting together support letters... Okay?

That way you will be almost ready to submit your packet when the insurance does

approve you, and you can get a date sooner..

Heaven help me if I join up another group!! I barely have the time to ready the

400-500 emails I get every day as it is!!! I like this group just fine. It's

kind of like a bag of mixed veggies. We got corn, we got carrots, we got

peas...separately good but together....totally awesome!!

Sue, I wish fervently that I could assure you that you are wrong! However,

someone else or many others may collectively give you a better answer

than I can. I just know that I have just changed medical plans after being

positively tortured at a hospital that I have gone to for decades. I do not

know what accounts for the NEW IGNORANCE IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSION--This is way

beyond my capacity to even think about right

now. Let me instead send you and all the love that I can. Please

do keep us posted on what answers you get and how you and are

doing. Love, Loves, n Rojas, at her wits' end!

(no subject)

n,

Don't even get me started. This stuff makes me absolutely sick to my

stomach. You know, my oldest daughter went to a conference at Bellview

Baptist a few

weekends ago and the message was love all people. Things like this make it

very hard to love all people. WHAT ELSE IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!

Let me say that when was in the hospital this last time, there were

more mix ups than ever before. The vanc crystallized 5 times that I know of

because of improper flushing. Never did the nurses all use the same amount of

fluids to add to the iv meds. I am going to talk to the doctor when we go in

March and I hope that is not too late. Am I wrong, or do you believe that

there should be an " across the board " amount of fluids added when diluting the

iv

meds???????? You know, it is highly possible that I am wrong in my thinking,

but I think you won't get accurate levels on, for instance, Tobramycin, when

one time you dilute it with 80 cc and the next time you use 120. PLEASE,

SOMEONE TELL ME I AM WRONG. This has given me nightmares.

And don't even get me started on where and how they take levels. SOMEONE

NEEDS TO WRITE A BOOK ON HOW TO DO THE THINGS THAT ARE COMMON IN THE CF

PATIENT!!!!! SUCH AS diluting iv meds, checking levels, cpt positions, etc. I

am sure

there is such a book, and more than likely I have probably heard of it.... But

apparently we need to refresh some memories, mine included.

Okay, I'll get off the soapbox for now....

Hope all is well with everyone.

Love and Hugs,
