Guest guest
Mention some of the causes for plagio. I think its important for pople to understand that this isn't always caused by neglect. There are medical reasons why kids have to wear a band. They may have flattened or coned shaped heads from torticollis, position in utero, being in the neo-natal unit...etc. A lot of people just say..Oh you left him on his back a lot...its irritating for me as a parent because I was monitoring my son's head since he was 3 months old. Repositioning wasn't working but it wasn't until they diagnosed my son with tort that I could really start the fight. I think in a lot of ways use of the band/helmet is misunderstood. Thanks for doing this, Tammy <christinakrgr@...> wrote: So we are going to do the segment! i just would like some feedback.... Guest guest
, I have to agree with Tammy. My son, Brody, has only been in the helmet 3 days but when people have asked I'm sure to emphasize that the flatness on his head is because of his position in utero and we tried respositioning prior to the helmet. Honestly, we wouldn't have chosen the helmet unless we felt it was medically necessary and recommended by our pediatrician. It seems like some people think his flat head was due to him being on his back in the crib all the time and then being in the car seat too much. The helmet is kind of pain (so far---keeping it clean, getting child used to it, worrying about child overheating especially going into the summer in the South) and I certainly would rather that he wouldn't have to wear it. He is still a little uncomfortable and I'm sensitive to people understanding that there could be long term serious effects (facial symmetry, TMJ, potentially affecting brain growth) if we didn't do the helmet as opposed to just cosmetic reasons and wanting his head to be perfect. I would love to watch the segment so please let us know where you live and if you might be able to post it to Youtube.
