Trisha, Yes the area I worked in was a poor area of the city, with high

unemployment, and a larger than average proportion of ill health due to poor

diet, living conditions ets. There are a lot of initiatives in the area to

increase the uptake of health care but it can often feel like a losing battle

when people aren't as concerned about the issues effecting themselves and their

children as the health professionals looking from the outside are. My main

worries as a school nurse was the effect on the education of a child if they had

a hearing loss or visual impairment. Unfortunately,, in the area I worked in

employment rates were high therefore there was a general feeling of what is the

point of education if you can't get a job anyway! Therefore school was just a

place for kids to go for the day.

It also sounds as if your old school nurse was having some problems. Or maybe

she'd had a bad day!

Frequent urination and bed wetting is a symptom of PANDAS now called PANS. Could be caused by strep, lyme or myco plasma pneumonia. http://www.pandasnetwork.org/ and http://www.pandasresourcenetwork.org/ To: mb12valtrex ; Trying_Low_Oxalates ; enzymes Cc: enzymes Sent: Monday, October 8, 2012 9:49 PM Subject: bed wetting

Hi all,I really need some insight as to what is going on with my 6 year old son. He has been potty trained for years but right after starting kindergarten, he has been wetting his pants throughout the day and wetting the bed at night. He still goes to the toilet in between wetting himself. He has been checked for a UTI and it is not that. I can't help but wonder if it is anxiety over starting kindergarten. I have tried talking to him to see if he is upset about anything at school but he said everything is fine. Has anyone experienced this with their children and found a solution?

A few of you said that for you, wetting pants and bed wetting were signs of PANDAS or PANS. What are some other symptoms or signs of this condition? This wetting of his pants is very new. He is 6 and has never done this before. It has been about 3 or 4 weeks now that he has been doing this. He must go through about 5 or 6 pairs of pants a day! Does this symptom come on suddenly with PANDAS? Could it just be anxiety about school, although he does it even when at home. Subject: Re: bed wettingTo: mb12valtrex Date: Tuesday, October 9,

To learn more about PANS go to http://www.pandasnetwork.org/ or http://www.pandasresourcenetwork.org/ The general symptoms are OCD, anxiety, separation anxiety, loss of handwriting, math and drawing skills, panic attacks, aggression, repetitive things like handwashing or lining things up, tics, trouble sleeping...... Do you know if he has recently been exposed to strep or pneumonia? Has he been sickk recently? The 3 bacterias known to cause PANS are lyme, strep and myco plasma pneumonia. ,Thank you for the websites and symptom information. I will definitely look onto this as being the problem for my son. Is your child better? What worked? A strange thing my son periodically gets is a small scab next to the inner part of his eye. Have you or anyone experienced this? This has been a mystery for a very long time. Subject: Re: bed

, You need to find a good PANDAS doc near you. Most of the DAN docs are at least familar with PANS now so you could start there. What state are you in? The first line of treatment is a high dose long course of antibiotics ( azithromycin or augmentin). The antibiotics need to be given for several weeks and even months. If all symptoms do not resolve a steroid burst is tried (generally 5 days but a lnger trial may even be necessary) If these do not help then IVIG is

tried. Some kids can recover with one round of IVIG but for sever cases, like my son, IVIG may need to be used for a good year. To: mb12valtrex Sent: Tuesday, October 9, 2012 10:26 AM Subject: Re: Re: bed

There are no tests for PANDAS at this time. You can run ASO/DNASE titers thru any lab but only 30% of the kids with PANDAS will have high titers. Dr Madeline Cunningham is coming out with a camkinase test that is supposed to be available in Jan 2013. You should find a good PANDAS doc though cause you need to find out what the trigger is........strep. myco p or lyme. My son has both strep and myco p ........some kids have one, others 2 and some all 3. The antibiotics will be different depending on what you have. You may want to consider traveling to see Dr Bouboulis in Darien CT. It will take several months to get an appt with him so you should book now and you could always cancel. If you do go to se him ask about the discount hotel rate at the Doubletree near him To:

OCD, excessive urination, not wanting to leave the house, deterioration of hand

writing, math/number refusal, squinting/blinking/walking around with eyes closed

and hands out in front of him, moon walking, fear of bathing.
