What is united healthcare pos? what does the pos stand for?

Re: Insurance Approval (United Health Care)

I had United Health Care POS and assuming it's the same, I was approved hassle

free. I had a BMI of @ 45 and by everyone's standards was " morbidly obese " or

whatever they're calling it now. From what I have seen on this list, UHC was

really the best insurance to have! Hope your experience is as good as mine!

Love,

Sperb

Hi...

I'm and I'm new to all of this. I'm trying to get my packet

together, and of recent have found myself concerned that I won't get

insurance approval. I have just elected UHC POS as my insurance, it

will change over from my HMO in January. Did those of you that have

UHC POS find that there was no problem getting approval, or did you

need to be in a life or death situation? I'm confused and worried

about not getting the approval. I don't know what I'll do if they

refuse me.

Thanks,

=====

Welcome to the group. I can't help you with the insurance question. I was

self pay and am still in the middle of that insurance mess. If you need any

help with your packet, let me know.

Thank you, Tarri...here is a question for you. I just had a physical

done in October (with a full round of blood work, YUCK!) Do I need to

do that all over again? I have copies of all of the work that my

OB/Gyn has (she is the one that just did all the blood work) and I am

going to see my PCP on Thursday to get his input. I know the manual

says not to use your OB/Gyn, but can I use the combined records of the

OB/Gyn and my PCP?

Thanks!

:)

Sperb & Tarri,

Does my BMI have to be 40+? Mine is 36 right now.

Also, can one of you describe what " dumping " is?

Thanks!

:)

Hi Trudy,

What an appropriate analogy! I love the Neanderthals thing. Thank you

so much...now I will have a wonderful visual when I am talking to one

of the customer service reps!

, I don't know. I think the " no questions asked " cutoff is 40. I think

when you start getting much below that you are going to have to show proof of

what is called co-morbidities: e.g., diabetes, or heart disease, or sleep

apnea. Something else to show that you need to lose weight or else.

Dumping is a symptom caused by eating things that are either too fatty or sugary

or by drinking too much liquid with a meal. Apparently it can be quite extreme.

However, please look up the details in the manual at clos.net. Dr.R explaines

it better than I can. You may want to e-mail Dr.R and ask him if you are a

candidate for the surgery with a BMI of 36 and see what he says.

Best of luck--keep me posted

Well the thing is I am still trying to get together the info to submit to

the Ins. Company, I have bcbs. I have been told that I only need to make

sure I sendtham letters from Dr. R and my records as well as a letter

from my PCP. I do know that your best chance is to find someone at the

Ins. Company and get their name, go through them all the time and let a

bond be created. The person handling your papers can make or break you

sometimes. Good luck!!! Sorry I am not more help..

Oh, polite persistance does score points!!!

Let me know how you are doing!!!

Dear ,

I would suggest that the physical in October is fine. Just have your PCP

write an addendum that there are (or are not) any deviations from that

physical to the present time. The blood work if fine - if they want

something more current - they can draw it the am of surgery. The blood work

is more for anesthesia than it is for Dr. R. The combined record of your

OB/PCP will just add confirmation to the process - submit them both. Bes

wishes tomorrow at your Dr. appt.

I just spoke to a customer svc rep at UHC today. She said from what

she saw, Dr R had all his ducks in a row with them and knew what he was

doing. She was very kind...her name was Mara..Moira...just like

but with an M. Thank God I remembered it. She was very positive and I

am very hopeful. My gynecologist recommended a PCP for me to see other

than my original PCP. She seemed to think that this new doctor would

be more supportive. Again, thank God for small favors. And thank you

for the advice.

Dedee,

Yes, please do pray for all of us...I have my own little brigade of

soldiers fighting for me here. I called UHC today and the woman I

spoke with was very nice. She was also very positive, so I have my

hopes up. I also have received my insurance letter from Dr R. I just

finished printing it out. I am so excited today! I am not sure about

what you mean by when do we call him...we submit the packet and then

after insurance approval and Dr R's approval on the packet we schedule.

Thats the way I am understanding it, anyway. I'm not sure. You tell

me what you find out and I'll tell you what I find out. Okay?

:)

Florence,

I understand exactly what you are saying and thank you for the

response. Fortunately, there are 3 people that work for the same

company as I do and they have all been fully covered. The part that

was concerning me is that one of them had undergone back surgery and

the other had a different sort of intestines problem that needed to be

addressed. I was curious to know if we had to have a pre-determined

condition other than obesity before the insurance would pay. Thanks

for the info, and to everyone that pointed me to that site. You are

all a wonderful team!

:)
