Hi Lilka,

Unfortunately I guess you didn't get into the conversations at the time when we were into the cold feet and all of that. It is just an other by product of the surgery. We had so much fat that protected us and kept us warm that now that it is going away our body thermostat goes haywire. I always have some very nice thick socks to keep my feet toasty warm and try not to ever let them get cold. It seems like once they get cold then I am cold. I can not say whether it will ever go away because I am 3 years out and I still have that problem. If my feet are warm most of the time we don't even turn on the heater even when it is cold. As for the eating don't be afraid of eating new food. Yes you are going to find that there are some things that don't agree with your new tummy and that is exactly why. It is a new tummy, It takes time. When you are trying something new always try it at home. You do have to add a little variety other wise you will get sick as you say. It is hard to eat the same thing three days on a row. Are you doing any meal planning for yourself? You might want to try that. I know it is hard in the beginning but it will get better.

Hi Lilka, First off congrats on making it to the other side. As for the changes in body temps, unfortunately, I'm 5 months out -130lbs, and I'm still freezing all the time.. I asked the doctor what that was about and he stated that it was a combination of fat burning and slight malnutrition. I argue with my husband about the temps in the house also. I'm always frozen and he's always sweating up a storm.. I hope it gets better for you. Now as far as the food, do your best to stick with it, if that's what your dietitian and Dr. recommended, go with it. I was on straight fluids for a month and a half, so feel fortunate.. I know it gets boring, but believe me when you try new things sometimes, it's way to harsh on your new tummy.. If your anxious to move forward with the diet, why

don't you check with your doctor first? Ive learned we're better safe than sorry with this.. The greatest of luck, and think of it this way, you've made it through the worst part, it only gets better from here on out.. OXOXOX, in L.A. As you know, I am 5 1/2 weeks out of surgery. I think I am doing quite well but I have this problem and I wonder if others have it too. When I get cold, I feel so awful. And I get cold all the time. My husband and I are fighting over the heat in the house. I could not even eat today, I was so cold. Sometimes I just go to bed and

sleep. I also get ill when I get too hot, like in the sun. My body seems to be overly sensitive or something. I am also getting very bored with the food. Yesterday I ate hamburger for the 3rd time. Before I was OK but yesterday I got ill. What else can I eat? Do I have to wait three months to eat something else? I am scared of eating and I mostly eat cheese, cottage cheese, mozzarella and sometimes Swiss. This is boring. I am afraid of many foods. I have eaten salmon. I dumped with tuna fish. I like tofu but in a broth like in Korean food. I don't eat the broth. Any new ideas? This is so boring and yet I am trapped here. Love to all, Lilka

Lilka,

I am always cold to. I don't no much on that but the food thing I

can comment on. You are 5 1/2 weeks out and you need to just start

trying different foods and see how your boby reacts to them. We are

all different when it comes to whats ok and whats not. I was told

don't eat pasta, well for me pasta was the only thing I could eat

without getting sick. I should also mention that sometimes i would

eat something and it would be fine ,then next day id eat it and id

get sick. I can't explane it. Like I said you have to just try

things, don't be scared, unless your eatting candy, cakes, milk, fried

foods you should be ok. Those are the things that are not good for

me. I was so worried about eatting the past Dr Umach said it was

fine. I know most people think you will never be able to eat things

again and for me ( and most long terms) its just not true. I can

eat just about anything now. Milk is really the only thing that I

can't jave ,but I can have ice cream,, strange I know, but true.

I eat anything I want in moderation and have maintained a 170 pound

weight loss for over 3 yrs.

Thanks so much . I am frightened to eat other things now so

I guess I should just wait. As for the cold, I hope it is somewhat

temporary. I hate it when it just comes over me. I am dressing more

warmly than I have in 20 years. My thin friends say they have been

freezing in our house and car for a long time. Maybe I am just

getting used ot being more normal. Love, Lilka

Wow, Shell, this is interesting. I am afraid to eat anything but

protein. I even dumped once on non-fat mayonaise I was eating with

my tunafish. Now I eat it with a bit of yogurt but I don't look

forward to it. I am afraid. Can I try some vegetables? some fruit? I

ate a few canned string beans when I first got home with cottage

cheese and I was OK but since then I have gone on to strictly

protein and now I am afraid. I will try. I mostly try to eat two

ounces of protein so that doesn't leave me much in the way of vegs.

Often I can not even eat two ounces of protein. O well. Thanks

again, Lilka PS I will try the socks.

Hi Lilka,

I'm gonna butt in here real quick. You might

actually do better with the regular mayo than the

non-fat. When manufacturers take fat out of

something, they have to add something else

instead, and frequently that's either some sort

of gum or SUGAR. I remember years ago (long

before my own surgery) being completely disgusted

by how sweet the non-fat salad dressings were.

Tasted like I'd poured maple syrup on my salad.

Now, I like the flavor of maple syrup, but NOT on

my lettuce thank you very much!

Don't worry too much about fat content. With the

RNY, you will NOT absorb most of it anyway. You

can tell this by looking at your hair and skin.

Is it dryer than it was before your surgery, even

if you're drinking lots of water? That's at least

partially because you aren't absorbing what fat

you are eating. For me, the fat satisfies, so I

am more able to stop after eating a reasonable

amount. Carbs just trigger more craving!

Eleanor:

I have to agree with you. I eat so little of mayo, butter and peanut

butter that it's all the real stuff.

real Mayonnaise, real Butter and Organic Peanut Butter with no

hydrogenatated stuff.

All this stuff tastes great. And in the tiny quantities we can eat,

it's guilt free (at least for me).

There's also low carb peanut butter sweetend with splenda, and there's sugar free smuckers jam, and if you put that on a soy crisp its a perfectly satisfying low cal, high protein snack Hope you try it and enjoy.. There's also low carb peanut butter sweetend with splenda, and there's sugar free smuckers jam, and if you put that on a soy crisp its a perfectly satisfying low cal, high protein snack Hope you try it and enjoy.. Hi Francisco. Do you really think I could eat peanut butter now?

Wow. I think I will wait a bit. How about rich cheese? I'm not sure.

What could I eat maybe? Love, Lilka

Hi Lilka,

I had my surgery in May 2005 and also have issues with being cold

all the time. It is almost funny since my problem before was always

being too hot.

The thing that has helped me the most is wearing tee shirts under

all my clothes now. I buy the three packs of tank top tee shirts at

Target or Kmart and wear them every day. They are thin enough that

they don't add bulk, but since they are cotton, the added layer

really makes a difference. I dress business casual/professional

every day for work, and it doesn't show at all.

I live in the Sacramento area, and this is the first year I'm

actually looking forward to the summer heat :)

As far as food, are you able to tolerate scrambled eggs yet? I had

pretty good luck scrambling an egg white with a bit of cheese.

Good luck,

Sherri

Lilka listen to Ramona she is so wise ! I am cold alot also, i just wear warm sweaters and i often wear cute camies under all my shirts and sweaters, at work in the summer i have a blanket at my desk to ward of the a/c, now here in Vacaville it can get pretty darn hot ! I do use the a/c at home but now this season i am so much thinner i wonder how it will be..............Last week we got a whole attic fan for the house, which is an energy savings for the house and it is suppose to really help cool the house down and keep the a/c useage down, i am curious how that will be , with the " new me" Colleensweetgemlady656@... wrote: Hi Lilka, Unfortunately I guess you didn't get

into the conversations at the time when we were into the cold feet and all of that. It is hard to eat the same thing three days

on a row. Are you doing any meal planning for yourself? You might want to try that. I know it is hard in the beginning but it will get better. Ramona
