pregnancy but couldnt find the heartbeat. So I went today for an U/S. I have

to go to Maternal Fetal because of the kidney disease. They only allow one

person to go in the back with you so my mother in law and husband were gonna

take turns...My mother in law was gonna go first...We get back there and soon

as

she puts the thing to my stomach she tells my mother in law to go get my

Not only did I get pregnant on the pill we are having TWINS!!!! I am STILL

THey estimate me to be around 10 weeks which is why they couldnt find the

Oh my goodness. Congrats. It seems like we both have the same EDD of

03/29/05. This will be my first (and my husbands) and this was very

unexpected. I am a year out from having duodenal switch surgery and

have lost 100 pounds. Twins. Do twins run in your family?

Debby,

I agree with Dr. H that Adam's bone age couldn't possibly be that delayed!

has

had 1-2 bone ages per year for the past 10 years. I can tell you that some

where read way

wrong. After we get the radiologist report, our endocrinologist reads them to

make sure

he is in agreement with the radiologist. If he isn't or if the reaing seems

absurd, he sends

us back to the hospital to have it reread. Dr. Harbison has also read the bone

ages for us.

On the positive side, Adam is better off being delayed than advanced, as is the

case with

my son. It just means he has more time to grow!

I don't know who to believe. Adam's bone age has been " read " at that age for

2 years in a row now. There can't be two people who are wrong, and the endo.

checked (and considering it is his brother too). But the endo. did say that

the ranges are not that specific. He says they get a broad range.....like

4-6 is one size. So he said Adam's " 5 " could be closer to 6........it's just

not that specific.

What I want to know is why can't it be that delayed? Why is that impossible?

That's what I can't figure out. Dr. H. says " impossible " but if it were

" impossible " then these doctors that I deal with would know that too.

Just doesn't make sense to me.

I would have a " meet the teacher " with you any time. Maybe you can come up

for next year's, then I can say I had at least ONE parent! LOL

Did my post card for ever arrive? I have another one just in case (I

bought two since it was such a hike to find someone who sold them). Let me

know, I can always send another.

Debby,

Have you ever seen the reference book that helps radiologist read bone age

x-rays? It has

examples of different levels of bone ossifications for every 6 months of age

from birth. I

have almost learned to read bone ages myself! It is possible that Adam's bone

age could

stay the same 2 years in a row, but to be that far behind doesn't seem right.

4-6 is not

one size. I think what your endocrinologist means is that there is a standard

deviation in

reading the x-rays, which means there could be a range younger or older than

what is

actually read. If you look at the reference books, you can see changes in

certain parts of

the hands and fingers every six months, and some may be very subtle. If the

radiologist isn't examining each area carefully, that may be where the error

comes into

play. For example, the bone ossification in the fingers might be 6 years of age

and the

bones in the wrist area could have a different reading. If I were you, I would

either let Dr.

Harbison read the x-rays or I would go for a 2nd opinion somewhere. the reason

it is

important to have a correct reading is that Adam could be in adrenarche and this

would

cause rapid bone age advancement as is what happened with my son. He used to

have a

delayed bone age until he was 4 years old. He entered adrenarche at this time,

but we

didn't know this until years later and his bone age advanced rapidly until it

was read ast 3

years older than his actual age. If Adam is delayed, that is actually good for

you for now,

but I would be leary about him being that delayed & not count on that later on

if you really

want to help him grow.

The thing that I don't understand is this.\

I know they can make mistakes reading the reports. But to have 2 different

people read the report (3 if you count the endo) and everyone reads it the

same?

Why can't his bone age be that delayed? Who says it can't? That's what I

don't understand.

Also, I'm beginning to wonder why the bone age didn't change. If he has

gotten taller, (8.2 cm taller in one year) why would it not advance? That's

where I think the endo was trying to say there is a range for the ages, it's

not an exact science where it can be exclusively pinpointed.

Hmmmm this is confusing.

Hi -

Unfortunately, he is not still wearing the FAB. He stopped wearing it

at 2 yrs and 9 months. We never had any resistance with him wearing

the FAB until that point in age. He is double jointed and loose

ligamented, so no matter how tight we put the shoes on he could snap

his ankle and get out within a matter of a minute. He never did this

until he got older, but as soon as he figured it out he did it

constantly. We tried rewarding, punishing, putting them right back on

as soon as he took them off etc and nothing worked, so we consulted

with the doc. Our doc (Dr. Colburn) felt that there really was no other

alternative since his shoes fit perfectly and said to go ahead and put

the DBB aside and keep a constant eye on his foot and if it slipped

back we would need to possibly recast and then try the shoes again. We

figured if we ended up doing the shoes again he would be a little older

and might understand it better. Luckily we haven't had to do that.

I was bummed when he came out of the DBB because I was hoping for him

to make it until at least 3 1/2. There is just such a high regression

rate if they come out before that age, so I was really sick about him

getting out of the shoes before he even turned 3. This is also a child

who would climb out of his crib with his DBB on at 20 months. Nothing

stops him when he puts his mind to something.

If This doc is on Dr. P's list, they should know to get her in right

away. You'll need to call back and ask to talk to the Dr's

nurse. She should know Maddie needs to be seen ASAP. They should

fit you in. If they still say no, then ask to talk to the doc

himself. HE will know. That's just not right to make you wait, not at all.

Sorry so short, but I had to put that out there so you can get on the

phone tomorrow. don't take no for an answer, if they still won't do

it you should consider that a red flag. But I think they'll do it

once you get to the right person., The scheduling people don't know

this stuff, and often tell parents the appointment can't be had for a

long time but when you get to someone who knows how important it is

you're in the next day or so.
