O.K. so went for our first appointment with a developmental pediatrican

yesterday. My daughter is 30 months and with the test registered

at about 18-19 months for speech. The Dr. said she was leaning towards

apraxia but does not diagnose at this age. We are to return in six

months I guess for a re-eval to see what has changed. Today we go to

early intervention speech therapy which we have been doing for about 9

months. They have been pestering me about when we were going to this

Dr. appointment so I have a feeling that there will be a 'meeting'

today. I feel like they are frustrated with Rylan and don't feel like

they are getting anywhere with her. She is pretty bull headed. I kinda

feel like I am making some progress but then again feel like we are

floating somewhere in the middle and fighting not to get lost in the

shuffle. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to help me handle

EI or any other advice. We did start fish oil in December and have

noticed significant changes she is getting a few more words out. I

guess I am just frustrated with the world right now. Just want to do

the best for my baby girl and feel like everyone thinks I am crazy.

Thanks for letting me vent I have been lurking for awhile.

You are not crazy. You just have a great motherly instinct. Have you read

the late talker? If not, go and read it. It is a complete guide for warning

signs and what to do about EI. Apraxics need 3-4 x per week ST. PROMPT is

also the type of ST they respond to quickly. EI may not give you more than 2

st visits a week. Apraxics need at least 3. Also, if you are not doing it

already, go ahead and get her OT 1-2x per week. That is my therapy schedule

and it works nicely.

Make an appt with a good nutritionist, Dorfman www.kellydorfman.com

she is terrific and got me started on the right track. Go into the folders

for apraxic tests, and get them done. Look into biomedical. This is getting

us to the " root " of our problem, aluminum. One of the lighter metals.

Charlie had 6 approx in Aug 2007 and is now talking in sentences 3-5 words!

Go for it!

Also check out vit e folder.

Please get the labs in the folders. Please consider NACD and please

do not worry about pleasing EI. Concern yourself with what needs to

be done. Please do not ignore bullheadedness and look for undelying

reasins like gut and allergy stuff and look to eliminate yeast

Colleen, just wanted to congratulate you on being that " warrior " mother that

unfortunately, we are forced to be by the incompetence of the districts, EI,

etc. You go girl! Carolyn

EI is a very small piece of this puzzle. Use what you can get out of them.

As for EI, I just wanted to say that my EI coordinator just fired me! Love

it! She was so darn awful. She treated my therapists poorly and then on top

of it all did not invite them to charlie's annual review. So, needless to

say, I go straight to the top and continue to pound on their *$$ until they

hear me and treat my therapists well.

Today, I have a new EI coordinator happy to help me.
