Would the school accept a letter from or your Doc to give them or mix them in the food just before it gets eaten? Mandi x

Guest guest
Could you give him a chewable enzyme he could eat discreetly? You could even put it in his sandwich or something - just warn him it's there . If we need a swallowable enzyme we use the papaya & pineapple enzymes. It's probably not a perfect solution but I figure it's better than nothing. I don't want to go through the school as I don't want Mark to get singled out and have to go to the school nurse for enzymes. He is old enough now to even eat them on his own but I also don't want him getting into trouble should others see him. Solutions? Often you can work with the school to arrange supplementation. If not, you may try mixing the enzymes into a cold drink in a thermos and adding ice cubes to keep it cold. The cooler (even frozen) you keep an enzyme, the longer it lasts. This is important because enzymes become activated, and then start losing their activity once put into a liquid solution. ____________________________________________________________ GET FREE SMILEYS FOR YOUR IM & EMAIL - Learn more at http://www.inbox.com/smileys Works with AIM®, MSN® Messenger, ® Messenger, ICQ®, Google TalkT and most webmails
Guest guest
From experience - do not sprinkle them onto his food as they will start breaking down the food and he will have mushy food by lunch. I discovered this by putting some leftover scrambled eggs in the fridge. When I pulled them out the next morning - they were mushy, like they were disolving. Gross! Also, enzymes tend to clump in liquid - and they taste nasty in plain water. You would have to send some type of juice and make him promise to really shake it up before drinking. What about a chewable enzyme that could be put in a small baggie in his lunch and he just chew it up before eating? Guest guest
We have go to the school nurse, and it's no big deal at this age. If you go to www.enzymestuff.com, there are lots of ideas for hiding enzymes -- chocolate wafers and drinks come to mind. Read the instructions for the details on how long the enzymes can survive in drinks, etc. Just be very careful not to get caught -- there was a major ruckus at my niece's school when my sister tried to bypass the nurse and pack the enzymes in her lunch. It is a bit ridiculous considering that most of the enzymes are not toxic even if you eat a whole bottle by accident. The schools do not understand that. They tend to be very hypocritical, too -- they treat them like a medication if you pack them in the lunch, but then treat them like an optional dietary supplement if you try to get them to administer them as medication. We've never had any trouble, though. NJ is used to kids with meds. in NJ > > I want to send Mark's enzymes with him to school for lunches but realize that we may have a problem with this. Guest guest
I was thinking about the chewables too! I have them and have saved them precisely for this purpose. Last night I froze some lemonade with the enzymes mixed in. Should thaw by lunch but my guess is that we're going to have to go the chewable route and deal with the school if it becomes an issue. Guest guest
Janice, This is from www.enzymestuff.com: -If you pre-mix the enzymes in liquid, they should remain active for about four hours, if kept cool. Adding ice is good. Enzymes are `activated' when they become wet. This is also why enzymes need to be stored in a cabinet and not a refrigerator (moisture may collect with the opening and closing of the door). So, if you were going out, you could mix up a batch ahead of time, keep it in the refrigerator or freezer until you leave, and then take out with you. Putting this in a drink bottle to take for school lunch, a restaurant, or shopping trip works well. ... Oils do not have this effect of activating enzymes, so mixing enzymes with peanut butter, or the frosting or chocolate chip ideas, work fine. in NJ
