Hi !

About Poland Springs-- Check out on google for more information, but

evidently there's a huge lawsuit against the company. Basically the water is

not

all coming from actual springs --so depending on WHERE the water is coming

from, it may not necessarily better than your own drinking water.

I always laugh because Aquafina bottled water comes from Latham Municipal

Water in NYS, and I grew up in that area and can't believe people are actually

PAYING for the municipal water!!!

But check it out on google to find more information because I'm very sketchy

on the details,

Becky

I think Poland Spring is a good choice. Back in the late 80's I had an

environmental science class and the teacher had researched them and said it was

the best one around at that time.

Has anyone had any of the home-delivered spring waters tested? Like Poland

Spring and such?

At least once a week I can actually smell the chlorine coming from my faucet

and don't want to cook with this water! (Not to mention everything else in

it!) We're looking to move, so I don't want to have a house system installed

that I'll have to leave behind, but I need to have some good water to use

for cooking. I was thinking of having poland spring delivered in the

meantime - any thoughts?

Thanks,

You can install a reverse osmosis system easily and can take it with you

when you leave. We are doing just that. Many springs are no longer just pure

water. Much of it is treated before bottling. Lots of unregulated water

bottling companies out there. Plus the toxins that are leached from the

bottles while in storage are a problem. You might be able to buy a quality

filter for your tap for short term but I would go with the reverse osmosis.

There is a shower head filter that is about $20 at Wal Mart or Home Depot

that removes chlorine too.

Thanks Becky! I will do a google search and see..

I had heard that about aquafina - I can't bear the taste of it any better

than our tap water. It's amazing what gets sold, isn't it??

If anyone has any brand suggestions, I'm open to them! J

Janice,

Thanks so much - I had looked into that a few weeks back - I think it was

actually your post - I wasn't able to find the distiller on Sears' website

and I tried every search term I could think of.

,

I bought a countertop distiller from Sears that works wonderfully as a

source for drinking and cooking water. Once it has finished distilling, you

need to transfer to a glass bottle or stainless steal jug (which is what we

have).

Until you move, this is a great alternative for water I have found. Cost is

about $199 Cdn and I think you can get them for about $120 in the US. I make

a huge jug or two a day quite easily with no hassle.

Spring water is unregulated and is just as full of 'stuff' as regular water.

Poland spring might be okay but you would have to continuously test it to

ensure its purity.

I guess a lot has changed since the 80's with Poland Springs! yikes! I agree

that a filter for your house is really the best option. I don't trust any water

that is bottled. The more you look into this stuff-the scarier it gets!

Do you have a r/o system which will be easily removed from your home? I've

been looking at installation instructions and it looks like something that

would not easily be removed.

I've also been researching the shower heads - from the ones I've found, I've

seen reviews stating they're not working as promised in removing the

chlorine, etc. Which one did you get?? Maybe it's a different one from the

ones I've seen.

Thanks!!

I was traveling a few years back when I saw bottled water name, Mount Pelion

water. I thought, gee I live about one mile from mount Pelion and it is

really just a small hill and as far as I knew , there was no spring water

coming from it. Actually the hill is only a stone throw away from a pulp and

paper mill. I wondered for awhile. Then I found out that the company was

actually in an idustrial park (even closer to the pulp and paper mill) that

was using tap water to fill the water bottles. Here is the scarey part, they

found ecoli in the bottled water and the water was actually coming from our

city water. Thats when we decided no more bottled or city water for drinking

or cooking.

Unfortunately times have changed. Poland Spring was involved in a

lawsuit. It is not really spring water but fits the FDA definition.

The lawsuit alleged it was wellwater because they drilled holes to

retrieve it. An article about the lawsuit is posted by me somewhere

in the archives. It is also said to be taken from an area near a

hazardous waste/superfund site. I have heard that but cannot verify

it. Lastly, they have now taken to fluoridating their 8 oz bottles.

Bottled water is regulated differently than tapwater. None of the

regulations adequately protect the consumer in my opinion. I have

heard good things about zero water and smart water.

Bottled water also has the plastics issue.

Good luck.

There are over the faucet filters and shower head filters that may be

helpful for now until you move.

The shower head filter we bought was made by GE. I wouldn't guantee it

either, but a whole home treatment centre was not an option because we are

moving. The reverse osmosis system we bought hooked up to the main water

line under the sink but the rest is easily removed. We will put a little

stainless steel cap (plug) over the hole in counter top when we move unless

the system is negotiated in the selling price. My brother in law installed

it in about an hour. (My husband could have done it but I don't really trust

his handyman skills..LOL)

Our system fits under our kitchen sink. It comes with a holding tank.

I believe we bought it at Home Depot.

In the next house I will find a whole home system.

Some of the shower heads are good. A friend in the neighborhood got

rid of eczema with just that.

Reverse osmosis filters are not all the same. I really researched

this and highly recommend the Costco one I post all the time. 5 step

filtration rocks. It takes longer to install. I literally hired a

rocket scientist to do it and it took him 2 hours. You cannot get a

whiole house system that will filter out fluoride...too big a

molecule. If you find one please post it (I'll likely be divorced if

you do...LOL) The shower thing is a good idea even if you get the

whole house filter. The small amount of fluoride in our water was

bleeding our copper pipes and showing up in the shower. A common

problem when copper meets fluoride.

My friend who is an internist MD in New Jersey boils water and

'then' puts it in a Brita water filter! I just met her at Disney last

week where her and her family were staying at a resort and is part of

the Disney vacation plan so her room had a fridge and all -but not

kidding -there was a huge pot of boiled water in the fridge to fill

the Brita with as they needed new water

She actually carries that bulky large Brita container with her in her

luggage through the airport -when I said 'you didn't bring that with

you did you? " Thinking it was something from the room she

answered " Of course I did! " I have to think about not carrying my

blow dryer at times because in trying to cut down on what I carry on

the airlines and she's carrying a bulky Brita container!! It's the

only water she said she trusts now a days. We go through tons of

bottled water in my house but have a whole house filter too on well

water that has been tested pure. Another doctor I'm friends with

won't use plastic bottles but like boils the water and then

fills glass bottles for the family to use. If I had more time

perhaps I would boil all my water and fill up a bunch of glass

bottles to carry -but with my two boys running around barefoot most

of the time I'm worried about glass a bit more than the water right

now. Besides I like the taste of the bottled water we drink which

are either Zephyrhills, Fiji or at times S. Pellegrino.

(ssshhh even better than 's boiled & Brita-ed pure water!)

You can probably check out your bottled water here

http://www.nrdc.org/water/drinking/bw/appa.asp

According to the following chart Zephyrhills and S. Pellegrino are

tested pure -didn't see Fiji -but it tastes pure and the website

makes it appear so! http://www.fijiwater.com

The boiling Brita trick does not address fluoride. In fact, boiling

fluoridated water makes it more toxic. I diligently did that for soup

for my kids back in the day. Brita is a charcoal filter...only gets

out dirt and the big stuff but chlorine, flourine and the rest stay.

Well water is a concern. I know I sound either paranoid or like a

jerk and I don't want to be either but if I had wellwater I would

definitely get the ro system from costco. If you need my member # to

order it or further convincing email me off list. The thing with well

water is the concern is what is in the soil...least, pesticide run

off, etc. and often the testing mechanisms allow for levels that are

higher than our kids can handle without harming them. Just the way it

is.

Thanks Liz for sharing this. I had to smile because to go through

all the trouble of boiling and filtering while I just drink my

bottled water (I know it's probably not the best either but after all

we do live on Planet Earth...and we do recycle)

We've had well water for years but like you I don't trust it either

even though it tested so pure and even with the whole house filter.

I don't know why.... I always thought it was because I was from

Jersey.

This is where I am coming from with the wellwater. A little globally

dyspraxic girl on this board...one of Dr. Agin's patients, has

wellwater in her home that was tested and came out fine. Thing is,

the little girl was tested and she is high in uranium...likely one of

the reasons she is a puzzle to many doctors. Uranium is, according to

Dr. Bock, more toxic than mercury. Makes sense as it is in military

stuff...bombs I think. Now, whether her uranium is from the wellwater

or not I can't say but I am happy her mom is ro filtering.

What is up with the water talk today. My favorite topic...and its my

bday. Too funny! The birthday kisses from my boy, who just got that

ability back (thank you Dr. ...it was a yeast thing I suspect)

are the best!

Liz,

I have been told that this works just fine for our purposes.... Where did you

read otherwise? I would be curious to see the article because I made a lot of

inquiries with regards to this product before purchasing it.

I will be very annoyed if it is not what I paid for. The documentation said

that it was guaranteed..... I believe.... but I have since tossed all of the

warranties (I detest extra paper) and so cannot go back for a look see.

My environmental doctor also indicated that it was fine and he is 'extremely'

particular with regards to the different products. We have had to change up

almost everything in our lives and will be purchasing an infared sauna soon in

addition to ordering mold testers, etc. etc. BUT.... not just any old infared

sauna; it must be from Hi Tech.... all of the others he has tested have high

electro-magnetic fields and he also insists that the wood not come from China.

NACD only endorses this product as well. My doc is very, very picky and I trust

him. He knows what to spend money on and what is 'okay'.

Sadly enough, we are now giving seafood the toss..... aaaah, no more salmon, I

am sad. No more chlorine swimming pools..... There are a lot of 'no mores'

until we get my boys' systems healed.

With regards to mold, it affects our children in the same way as heavy metals.

It is a potent neurotoxin with effects that stay in the body and only come out

with detoxification. Unfortunately, there are no current tests for mold

'poisening' that he finds reliable but insists that we test our house to ensure

that Mark is not being contaminated at all. He has instructed me to order 'mold

plates' to test our house.

Oh, by the way.... he indicated that we must all stay away from Pabain

(spelling).... You know, the Paba in the creams and sunscreens as it is truly

aweful for our children. No gum with Aspratime or artificial sweeteners as he

want all excitotoxins away from my baby boy! He recommends Spry chewing gum

sweetened with Zylotol.

I sound very scattered.... sorry. I have been on my death-bed these days

suffering from an absolutely vicious cold which has embedded itself inside my

ears particularly my left ear. I now know what it feels like to have a

congested ear. It really does affect your balance and your 'with-it-ness' and

you are very disoriented and discombobulated. Basicly, I am just plain

out-of-it.... very 'slow' processing and on my feet... Gee.... I'm just like my

boy used to be!

You don't seen paranoid to me - I would love it if you would fill me in. My

to order the costco R/O and have it installed. 10 minutes ago, I mentioned

pesticides and such to my mother wondering how that would stay out of her

According to the following chart Zephyrhills and S. Pellegrino are

tested pure -didn't see Fiji -but it tastes pure and the website

makes it appear so! http://www.fijiwater.com

Here is the 'exact' name..... I am sure it is probably called the same thing in

the US. It will be much cheaper in the US so pay no attention to the price. It

is a countertop distiller.

Here it is on the Canadian Website:

Re: [ ] Regarding Water, Poland Spring?
