Discussion about the war

Hi,

after thinking to and fro for hours I give in and admit that I don't know

what to do with that subject. I have read 's post, who has a good

argument when she says that she needs the list as a place, where she can get

away from all the talk about the war. And I have read Lenora's post, who

likes this list because of the international members with their different

views and because it is not restricted to CF-related topics.

The war affects us all in one way or the other since our kids are dependend

from a working health system and financial support from the government. And

like discussions about religion a discussion about this war can raise a lot

of emotions and make people feel very uncomfortable.

So please, when you voice your opinion about the war, mention it in your

subject line. That allows others, who don't want to hear about it to use

their delete keys. And don't forget that the main purpose why we are

together here is our mutual fight against CF. That's why we have to stick

together and support each other. When people leave the list because of

political discussions, then we all will lose.

I just loved Angie Partin's comment: Some agree, some disagree, that's

democracy. Let's take it that easy. At one point in the future this war will

be history and this president will be history. But our fight against CF will

be as actual as today.

Peace

The one thing I thought I should point out is that I have no problem with

people discussing how the war is affecting their lives personally

especially anyone who has a loved one involved in the war. I just don't

like discussing political topics for the sake of discussing political

topics. I grew up in a family with six kids. We have a libertarian, a

republican, an independent, two green party members and three democrats.

This is only counting my immediate family. On my husbands side, I also

have someone in the right to life party (currently in the process of

becoming a cloistered nun). Suffice it to say, I grew up and am

constantly surrounded by non-stop political discussions. My family is

very opinated and often quite obnoxious. In my experience, I have never

seen anyone change their mind as a result of a political argument. I

have only one friend who honestly listens when we have polical or

religious discussions and tries to truly understand both sides.

Generally, all see as a result of these discussions is anger and

frustration. I am by nature a peace maker and I hate arguments just

simply for the sake of arguing. For me, it causes me great anxiety. I

realize some people actually enjoy this type of banter but I really

don't. Anyway, Torsten's suggestion is fine with me. I will just delete

the war talk.
