When I was 16 the doc told me I had PCOS. Then at 24 and on birth control

I conceived my son. I just had Gastric bypass in Feb of this year, and Found

out we are expecting again. I definitely believe that as the weight comes of

your fertility goes up. We weren't even trying yet and surprise. Good luck

I have read many posts from surprised women that found out they were

pregnanct after surgery and they never thought they would be because they had

PCOS and

they easily got rpego after surgery. i was very infertile many years ago and

after 8 on and off years of clomid and inseminations I gave up and took

custody of my cousins baby girl who was 1 yr. and got pregnanct within 6 months

of

having her with us and I was not on anything to help meg et pregnant and had

twins :) Then i still did not take anything and could NOT get pregnant again so

i went to the infertillity doc and got back on Clomid and got pegnant first

try when the boys were 2/12 I had baby girl. Then nothing again for 3 1/2 years

and went on BC pills for a cyst I had on my ovary and when I got off the pills

I got pregnant but had a miscarraige. Before I had my surgery i went on BC

pills just in case and at 8 months out I quit the pills and got pregnant again

but miscarried again ( both miscarraiges were from the pregnancies coming off

the Bc pills so hormones may not have been regulated) anyways stayed off the

pills and got prego again with 3-4 months of the miscarraige and am not at 35

weeks, So I think I was more fertile after surgery sicne I got pregnanct 2 times

within 4 months of each other where it usually takes me years to conceive. I

wish you the best of luck. I know TTC is stressful but try to relax about it,

i know better said than done.

Hi Lynn

I actually took clomid with my other 3 children due to my being

infertile due to my weight. Let me just say that this baby was a

suprise. I was actually on the birth control patch until the warm

weather came along and they started making me break out. I took them

off in may.... and here we sit in june and I am 7 weeks pregnant. I

was always told it took awhile after birth control to get pregnant!

Wrong!! I just thought.. well I will go get my tubes tied in July,

so I wont worry about it.... wrong again!

Believe me it happens!

PCOS and Pregnancy

Hello everyone. I am new here so forgive me if this has been posted

before. I had my surgery on 5/18/04. Until that point, I was

infertile. We had tried for over a year and a half and nothing. I am

thinking this is due to my weight. I started at 307 and today im at

277. I am wondering if anyone has had PCOS and had the surgery and

been able to succesfully conceive a baby without having to do the

complex things like the shots and things to have a child. I am

starting to get baby fever honestly and I was just wondering. I

havent saw many post where people had gotten pregnant easily.

Other than just the pcos holding back, has anyone else that was

infertile before surgery, gotten pregnant easily after surgery? Sorry

my curiousity is getting the best of me. :)

Angel - WLS definately helps reduce the effects of PCOS. I have been

married 18 years and besides the 3 early miscarriages I have had in

the 80's have not been able to concieve due to PCOS. We went the

whole fretility round for the last 2.5 years and then decided that it

was not meant to be. I had WLS and 5.5 months later accidentily got

pregnant. We only had unprotected sex once that month and that is all

it took.(I was told WLS could make me fertile and I shouldn't get

pregnant for at least a year so we were trying NOT to) Now I am still

50-60 lbs from goal so I know it is not just the weight that was

keeping me from getting pregnant. I weighed this much before at a

much younger fertile age and still could not concieve. When you have

WLS and loose a lot of weigh at a pretty rapid rate the fat cells

dump all of the stored hormones in your body and kind of puts the

PCOS into remission. For some people though I have heard that once

you stabilize for a few years the PCOS can come back into play and

others that have PCOS very bad still have some issues getting

pregnant but this is not the norm. Most women become very fertile

after WLS. Good Luck once your body is ready but do take your time

and do not rush into it on purpose before at least 1 year out. - Diane
