Guest guest Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 had mononucleosis when he was about 9. The symptoms are very similar to the flu: muscle soreness, lethargy, fever, sore throat, swollen glands, headaches and a strange looking rash. The incubation period is quite long, it can be up to 4 to 6 weeks after first coming in contact with the virus before the symptoms develop. We think caught it by sharing a drink at a scout camp. I was told for prepubescent children, the symptoms are far milder than they are for the older child/teenager. The recovery period is also much shorter. From memory, I think he only had one week off school and was only sick for a few days. It was the strange rash on his torso that alerted the Dr to mononucleosis. Two blood tests, done a month apart confirmed he had the virus. ne Quote
