Hi Gwen--

Don't panic--we'll work this out! First, look in your existing

policy--see if you can find a section regarding amendments or

addendums to the policy. Unless the company specifically reserved

the

right to make such impromptu " addendums, " then they can't! (Don't

worry--even if they reserved the right to make these types of

changes,

you can still fight them!) Your policy is a contract between you &

the insurance company, and just like you can't unilaterally decide to

change the premium that you pay, they also don't have the right to

unilaterally make changes without (at the very least) notification to

you of the change taking effect, the date of such change, etc.

You mention that Dr. R is " in-network " for you--how close are you to

Durham? I'll be in Durham next week (attending clinic on Tuesday

doing that happy dance with Dr. R on Thursday!) If it's not too far

for you, feel free to bring what you've got (the policy, the letter &

the addendum) and I'd be happy to take a look and help you write a

kick-a** letter stating your case. (btw--I'm an attorney--I actually

went to UNC School of Law--go 'heels!)

Let me know--

a

> Ok People I need some help and pray someone out there can help me.

Two weeks ago I got insurance approval via telephone, yesterday I

finally got my letter and they have only approved me for 50% up to

$4000.00. My letter came with a copy of a new addendum to our policy

stating that is the max. dollar limit on WLS.

> Has anyone had this problem? Did you or can you appeal something

like this? I need help, I am totally lost when it comes to dealing

with insurance (I believe if insurance is not the antichrist, they

should be).haha

> If I cannot change their minds, I cannot have this surgery (or any

WLS) I have a $2000 deductible and then my 20% is wiping us out as it

is.

> What is really confusing me is that the letter says they will only

pay 50% up to $4000, but Dr R is in network for me as is Durham

Regional and my policy says in network is 80/20. How can they only

pay

50% if he is in network? I have called and talked to 4 different

people and each of them have given me a different story. One lady

even

told me that I was actually paying 70%.

> Where do I go and what do I do? Helpppppp !

Hsa anyone any recipes fro the following two items :

I've some but they don't fit for the profile for the child who needs these

replacements as she is allergic to tomato , egg whites, soy, and corn and is

GFCF or at least attempting it . I do remember someone about a year ago

posting a spaghetti sauce made with red peppers - I'm hoping with some

adaptation we can make a ketchup substitute - also she is " addicted " to

" ranch " type dressing for salads. I'm helping a residential school and adult

facility implement GFCF - but several of teh residents tested have

conflicting allergies - These two items would be a godsend as the young lady

in question is not eating much at present .

Again I Need recipes for :

Ketchup - (NO TOMATO, CORN< EGG WHITES OR SOY)

" Ranch type dressing " - DITTO

Thanks you can e-mail directly if you like Sue

babe –

You

GOTTA at least get some liquids in

you. You’ve gotta try and at least

eat Popsicles or something like that – or you’re gonna end up back in that hell

hole of a hospital on I.V.s for rehydration. Honey, please try hard. Forget the weight issues. Remember that you need to concentrate on getting better

first. It takes many weeks to get

over surgery – any kind – you’ve got to take care of that first!!!

Praying

for you big time!

Dear , From the hernia repair has there been swelling? I was wondering if maybe there hasn't been a weight loss for several reasons. Any time there is some sort of surgery performed (especially emergency ones) there is some sort of swelling, my question is does the swelling carry weight? Also does'nt the body go into a state of shock putting all it's resources to heal/recover from an emergency operation(the hernia repair)? Maybe the body is focused on healing the hernia? Hopefully as the hernia heals the weight drop will begin to increase! I am no medical expert or rookie just inquisitive. : ) Wishing and hoping the absolute best for you! a Pre-op BMI36 Help Hi, It is three weeks since i was switched and some of you that know me know i had an emergency hernia 12 days later..I sady can say i lost 4 and 3/4 pounds today and feel awful ,,,,all of this and not even 10 pds...i feel so nauseated,,i threw up and just cannot eat a thing ,,any suggestions are verfy welcome... karen nyc gagner switched june 5th hernia repair june 18th ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've heard many people say they actually gained weight while in the

hospital and then lost that plus more later. You've now been through

TWO surgeries in a very short time and it's quite possible that your

body is actually losing pounds but you can't tell yet because of fluid

retention.

Take gentle care of yourself, stay off the scale if you can, and sip

something allllll the time. The weight will come off in its own time.

Dear ,

I know how sick you've been going thru the two surgeries.

Now you are home and on your way. But! Your body has gone thru some

very traumatic chances, give it time to adjust and heal. I realize

it would be great to at least see a bunch of pounds gone. It just

doesn't always work that way. Go easy on yourself. Do the best you

can. Eat as much or little as you can but drink your fluids to at

least stay hydrated.

Believe me, the weight will come off!! For sure!! Just get well

right now.

I went through that too.. just keep trying a little food at a time..

my surgeon's nurse suggested yogurt to help me repopulate my gut with

good bacteria.. I got those Yoplait " Go-gurts " .. they are small (~2

oz), and when I was bored with eating it soft, I froze them and ate it

as a frozen yogurt pop. Just keep trying things- after I was sick its

taken me 2 weeks to stop getting tired just trying to type email

responses.. sip water, gatoraide, poweraide, fruit juice, warm liquid

jello, whatever your poor tummy can handle that sounds good. It will

get easier.. I wish I could help more.. but I'll do whatever I can

from here. Hang in there, hon.

Dear , I have felt like that because I have had other surgeries that left me exhausted and helpless(when I had foot surgery, I was on crutches for practically a year!). I wanted to ask you was if there is anyone there with you, helping you out at home during your recovery? I hope you are not alone, someone should be there even if they need to personally feed you because you are phsically weak and totally exhausted. I hope and pray that you begin to feel peace and get better soon! a BMI 36 Pre-op Re: Help susana and to all does anyone out there feel so tired and weary like they will never get back to where they were,,even restless at times, i can;t a comfortable place for myself and eating has become a horrible chore.i dont thiink i am eating enough but i am doing the best i can thanks for listening karen nyc post op almost one month lap d/s 2 weeks emergency hernia repair open ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear :

I have not wrote you until now but I can see you are not only scared but your spirit is low.

When I had my surgery in "99" with Dr. A, open lap and I do mean open. My incision was left open except for 7 large retaining stitches and I was not completely healed until Oct.

I can relate to how you are feeling, I was feeling so sick and bad for the first 12 weeks I was eating practically nothing.

My food intake for that first 12 weeks consisted of 1/4 cup of cream of tomato soup made with milk and I ate shaved ice constantly and popsicle, not diet! You don't need to be eating anything that is sugar free or fat free or low in calories. Your not taking in enough to matter and Dr. A told me he didn't care what I ate as long as I was getting something in and all the fluids I could manage. He also told me that the 1/4 of soup I was eating every 2-3 hours was good just keep the liquids up which I did my best to do.

I felt weak and yucky for quiet awhile. My walking consisted of going to the bathroom at first by holding onto the walls, I had a tub seat in the shower because I could not stand long enough to shower and even with the seat I would be totally wiped out afterwards and have to nap. By the way napping is good, you heal while your sleeping, my recliner and I were best friends during that time.

Don't worry about wasting food keep trying until you find one you like and hopefully unlike me you will like more than one! LOL After the first 12 weeks I was beginning to feel a wee bit better everyday and I knew it was because I was eating more and drinking more and I had started walking down the driveway and back twice a day.

Was it hard? Yes, it was. Some people have no problems at all and I am grateful for them, for me it seems to be from the anesthetic as I had about 3 weeks of ugly tummy after my hernia repair and TT.

Please write me and let me know what questions I can help with and if you would like my phone number so you can call and just vent I will gladly give it to you, also feel free to e-mail me privately so you can really sound off if you need to.

is

right. Surgery takes it out of

you! Doesn’t matter which

kind. I had wrist surgery this

past fall – it took about 4 weeks to feel like a “real” person again. When I had my C-Section when my son was

born – I wasn’t really even up to getting out of the house until at least 5

weeks post-op – and even then, I was still shaky. Took a good couple of months before I was able to resume my

normal activites.

Try to be

patient, hon…. The whole recovery

thing *does* stink big time, but

it’s the way our bodies are made!

God love you darlin'. I'm sorry this has been so bad. You might want to talk to someone about some anti-depressants or a change in them if you currently take them. Feelin so down and out makes it even harder to heal! Nothing wrong with getting something to up the mood!

, Some people go through this for a while. Your body has been through

alot. My guess is that you are not feeling well because you are not

eating/drinking. Have your tried ice chips/popsicles? I found that Italian

Ices were very refreshing. You can find them in your local grocery store in

the frozen food section, usually by the ice cream. Just take it easy and keep

hydrated. The rest will come in due time.
