I'm so embarrassed. This pickle thing has been going on for about three days,

and I was tired of it halfway through the first day. I tried not to read them,

but I couldn't help it.

I have actually dug up some old pickle recipes and I'm on my way to the store to

pick up the ingredients. I found a great recipe for sweet dill pickles. I am

going to try them with Splenda. I have used Spenda before to make bread and

butter pickles, and they were wonderful. You just have to add a little more

liquid, because Spenda takes up less room than sugar, and if you don't add

liquid, you will end up short. I'll let you know how they turn out.

Barbara, THAT is just too funny. I would indeed be interested in finding

out how your pickles turned out. One of my fondest childhood memories is

of my Memere's home made dill pickles. Until I was in my 30's I wouldn't

eat a pickle unless it was one of hers. That meant going for many years

without pickles, because she hadn't made any in a VERY long time. I

think I got the LAST jar when I was in my early 20's and wouldn't share

it with the hubby. HUMMMMM you think that is WHY he divorced me? LOL

Now.......well.........since my dear sweet Memere has passed on and NO

ONE in my family is THAT domestic......my taste buds will eat just about

ANY thing called a pickle.

What brand of pickles do people buy? All the dill ones I see are full of stuff, including food colorings?? I really just want pickles for the juice right now but I can't figure out what to buy??

I've read some use Bubba's Dill Pickles.  I use sugar-free store brand pickles.  The label reads legal but I'll have to double check what store, etc.

look for the pickles that are in the refrigerated section. Then you have the best chance of finding legal ones i've found. The only ones I came across that don't have natural flavors or surgar have "spices" listed as an ingredient... which is sort of a grey area. You can also make your own in the refrigerator although it's no cheaper than buying a jar off the shelf.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: mskrak1@...Date: Thu, 7 Jan 2010 16:36:44 -0500Subject: Re: pickles

I have some " Trader Joe's Kosher Dill Pickles " that look pretty good, but I've

kind of been afraid to open them up and try them. Ingredients: Gherkins,

Distilled Vinegar, Salt, Mustard Seed, Granulated Garlic, Cumin, Natural

Flavorings (Dill, Garlic), Calcium Chloride, Tumeric.

Trader Joe's claims they list all ingredients on the label, even those under 2%.
