Guest guest
.. newbie Posted by: " bcky_mayo " bcky_mayo@... bcky_mayo Sun Aug 27, 2006 2:07 pm (PST) hi, all, I'm not a resident of NJ, but I am most definitely the mother/ father of a special needs child. I say mother/father, because my kids' dad is decased, so I am pretty much doing it all.my son, the one with sn is almost 4 and we have an almost 2 yo little girl. My husband was a severe alcoholic, and it finally consumed him, and he died last year. My son, was born with Alcohol Effect disorder, which for people who may not know, is the Daddy version of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Where as FAS is caused by the mother's drinking during the gestational period, babies born with AED receive an overdose of alcohol in 1 " shot " so to speak. Because my husband's sperm was so concentrated with the alcohol, it affected the chromosomes, and caused congenital defects. Which basically means my son was born an alcoholic. He has tremors such as that of a person who is detoxing. He suffers from insomnia, speach and developmental delays, adhd and behavioral problems. Because of his age, it is very difficult to get treatment for him. Alot of the adhd meds, are designed and regulated for school age children, so dosing is a problem for us. It is also very hard to find a dr. that will treat his AED because many either don't believe in the disorder or just don't know enough about it to treat my son effectively. Discaplin is a huge problem, I have tried everything. Time outs, loss of privaleges, spanking, all the new types of discaplin, and nothing seems to work. He is very mean to his sister, has even tried to suffocate her with a pillow. He can be very dangerous, and it only takes a second for him to go from playing nicely to bouncing completely off the walls and unable to settle back down. If anyone out there is struggling with this same type of issue, or maybe even FAS, please contact me. you may be the link I need to helping my son. If you have read all of this, you are a very patient person, and I appreciate the time you took to read it.
