Guest guest
TESTING FOR MERCURY TOXICITY Note: Mercury does hang around waiting to be spotted, it loves fatty areas, especially brains where it causes much damage. The only really accurate way is to biopsy organs - NOT RECOMENDED !!! So, if its hiding, how do we know its there? Because its unlikely to show on testing unless of very recent exposure (say 2 months or so) you have to look for a range of markers of problems mercury toxicity would cause. A simple, relatively inexpensive, non-invasive way to do this is ELEMENTAL HAIR ANALYSIS. This test can be performed by many labs, HOWEVER, Andy Cutler PhD a biochemist that has calculated 'The Counting Rules'( which are used to analyse the results), BASED ON DDI (Doctors Data Inc) FORMAT. (He does not have financial interest in DDI, GDSL used to be OK but they recently changed the values and format of their results) THE COUNTING RULES look for DISORDERED MINERAL TRANSPORT - basically all over the place the results. If this is present, Mercury toxicity is likely to be a problem. The group (address at the end) have a public files section which explains the 'rules' and has masses of info and supporting advice. So my advice is to go for the ELEMENTAL HAIR ANALYSIS through DDI. It's the cheapest I've found anyway and non invasive How do you arrange this from the UK (it's the same if you are in US or anywhere really), what does it cost? For DDI you need a prescription - GROAN! BUT..I found out that even nurse or HV is Ok for this - need to write their qualification down and use the Practice Notepaper, so got signature on letter saying; Please supply Elemental Hair Analyis testing kit for BLAH BLAH. Be sure to get ELEMENTAL not Toxic Note - there is a service who will arrange test for you without Dr - it costs more but worth it of there is noone willing to sign for you - Direct Lab Services - www.directlabs.com This needs to be faxed to DDI with your shipping details. They send you kit and bill for $50, you send hair and dosh (CC OK) and then you get the results. Read the results against the Counting Rules and post to the list if you are unsure, check the files section first for what and how you need to post for best response. NOTE: CHELATION SHOULD NEVER BE STARTED WHILE AMALGAM FILLINGS (SILVER COLOUR) ARE IN PLACE Some links below to get you started Extensive files, busy list, choose digest option to avoid deluge of mail, 50+ per day http://www.doctorsdata.com/ DDI web site - has sample reports so you can see what you'll be getting for your money http://www.healing-arts.org/children/index.htm Dr Amy Holmes was treating Autistic kids (including her own) for heavy metal toxicity. Also outlines what other tests might be useful in assessing toxicity Reply I received from DDI (March 2002) If you fax (630-587-7860) the script with your address we can send you the test kit. " The price of the Hair Analysis is $50.00. The payment options will be on the submittal form the comes in the kit. You can include payment with the sample by money order or credit card. Here's hoping …… Mandi in Uk PS I found this video VERY useful Heavy Metal Toxicity and What can be done:- Unlocking Autism Conference Video Tape- This video is a copy of the Unlocking Autism Biomedical Conference from November 3rd, 2001, which features Dr. Amy Holmes, and Dr. Cave. This videotape is over 4 hours long and includes a question and answer session after the two main lectures. There is also a moving display of children's' photographs set to music at the end. Dr. McCandless highly recommends them for this test because it has probably the world's largest database regarding hair analysis. Hair testing has to be ordered through a health care professional. Doctor's Data charges $42 (US) if you send in payment with the hair specimen, but if the test is billed to insurance (which will rarely pay for it of course), and your insurance company denies coverage, the lab charges $76 due to the extra paperwork, etc. Hope that helps, Lorna

Guest guest
I know my friend had both her boys hair tested - it clearly showed the difference between " normal " (minerals all in order and very tiny to no toxic stuff) and Autistic all over the place with toxic levels etc. I thought that was really interesting as well. Guest guest
I've had my own hair tested together with my autistic son's: not much difference. He's got the same metals in abnormal quantities as me (aluminium, antimony, arsenic). His quantities are slightly larger: if mine are in the yellow range, his are borderline between yellow and red. With lead, we also both have a little too much of it, but he has more than me: I have lead on the borderline between green and yellow, he has it in the low yellow range. I have much more uranium than he, though. Guest guest
Apparently, NY made it illegal to test your hair! I did find some snippets of info for you. I'm not a NY resident, but I find this so bizarre it was worth looking in to: " In 1986, Analytical Research Laboratories (ARL) of Phoenix Arizona signed a consent agreement with the New York State Attorney General to stop " soliciting and accepting hair specimens for laboratory examination where the purpose is to determine possible excesses of deficiencies in nutrient mineral levels or toxic metal levels in the body. " The Attorney General acted because a health food store proprietor had been using hair analysis as the basis for recommending vitamin and mineral supplements. ARL had not been licensed to operate within New York State, and hair analysis for the purpose of determining nutrient levels is not legal there. In 1986, Doctor's Data, a Chicago-based laboratory agreed to stop accepting human hair specimens from New York State unless it can obtain a permit from the New York State Department of Health. The company also agreed to pay $25,000 in costs and penalties. Action was taken because a bogus " nutrition consultant " had been using the test as a basis for prescribing vitamins, minerals, and other supplements. " and: " New York residents please note: New York State rules and regulations allows a clinical laboratory to examine specimens only at the request of a licensed physician or other persons authorized by law to use the findings of laboratory examinations in their practice or in the performance of their official duties. We can assist you with this process. Please contact our Client Services team for the latest information. " Does that mean an MD can order a hair test for you? Any NY residents know? What people do is have a friend in another state be your mailing address. You send it to them, they send it to you. Pain in the a**, I know. Pam > > I would like to have my son's hair tested for heavy metals. I live > in NY state and alot of the websites that I looked at for this won't > do it if I live in NY?? Why is this? > Thanks for any help. > >
Guest guest
It's helpful for those not sure if they're dealing with metal toxicity and for those not sure which metals they're dealing with. DMSA chelates mercury and lead and ALA chelates mercury and arsenic, so the hair test can help some determine which chelator to use. It can also help people try to determine and reduce/remove sources of exposure... S S <tt> Hi all members,<BR> I would like to find out what precisely the benefit of hte hair testing is.<BR> We know that my daughter is loaded with heavy metals. this tells us what was coming out early on? <BR> How does thjis help in detox decision making, if at all?<BR> any resposnses would be hlepful.<BR> Thank you,<BR> Alison<BR> <BR> <BR> ---------------------------------<BR> FareChase - Search multiple travel sites in one click. <BR> <BR>
Guest guest
oh that's interesting. Do they do this all from one strand of hair, one day in your life, or do you give them hair from different days? Or do they run multiple tests on the same hair to find fluctuations over a time period? I couldn't get the link to work. Re: [low dose naltrexone] Introduce myself yeah, it is a handful and then some.... I found a doctor in CT that treats people that have MS with vitamins and diet. She too also has MS. I had a hair analysis done and it came back with what vitamins I'm lacking. Such as my calcium level was really high, but my magnesium level was very low. My understanding is that your body doesn't absorbe calcuim unless your magnesium and calcuim is balanced. That was just one of the findings. She tested me on others and decided the dosage of what I should be taking based on her findings. She has a website if you want to check it out.. its www.drgrecomd.com
