lilghostie!

Hi! How are you?! I remember you from a few boards I used to read

and post on before I got wrapped up with this one! I enjoyed your

posts and your perspective on things.

I am so happy to hear of your daughter's progress. Just the fact

that she is eating so much more is wonderful.

I would keep a close eye on the rash, my son had a very light rash on

his cheeks for a few months after starting enzymes and it eventually

went away. Occasionally, I will see it reappear, but it has not been

a problem. Since what you describe sounds a little different, I

would watch for any other symptoms that would indicate she cannot

tolerate the enzymes. Hopefully, though, the rash will go away with

time.

As for putting the enzymes in foods, if you put them in pudding to

pack in a school lunch, the pudding will be yukky after a few

minutes, both in texture and in taste (it will be more liquid from

being broken down). I will send you the mixing file for many options

on giving the enzymes. If you mix them with jam, keep in mind that

jam can cause some kids problems because it can be highly phenolic.

Your daughter may not have a problem with this, but many of our kids

here do. If you just use a little jam, she might do just fine.

My son does not swallow pills, either, which is a pain in the rear,

but we just mix up the enzymes in a little Kool-Aid type clear drink

(Wyler's). I don't know if Wyler's is gluten-free, if you are

concerned about that. Again, the mixing files will give you some

help in this area and some guidelines on teaching kids to learn to

swallow capsules.

If you can stick it out three weeks, you should see a decrease in the

bothersome behaviors you describe. It is not uncommon for parents to

see an increase in hyperactivity and other " problem " behaviors as the

child goes through an initial withdrawal effect from the enzymes

breaking down the opiate peptides. You can decrease the dose to help

weather this, then gradually build back up.

I hope you keep us posted with the details, good and not-so-good.
