-Hello Shirley!!!

I'm finally home and just posted an update on my condition. My

email addy is gumbo_yaya_69@... I have quite a few questions

to ask you concerning post op problems. I barely remember talking to

you as the " morphine Happy Nurses " kept pressing my button for me

whenever I groaned. I was not happy to say the least...nor was I

thrilled with the laxidasical after surgery care...I was discharged

even though I was vomiting profusely for 3 days. I'll fill you in

later. Hope you are doing well.

Peace,

Dear , what happened to you? When I called you I was so amazed that you

were so far along in your recovery. Did you try to do too much too soon.

Did the laxative mess up your bowels? It doesn't make sense to me how you

could be doing so well and then have so much trouble. Can you explain it?

Also why did they discharge you when you were so sick? Insurance? I was

there a month and they would have kept me longer if needed. I was covered

with my ins. after a long struggle with them. Do you have diarrhea? Why are

you continuing to vomit? I know I am asking so many questions and you

probably don't feel like answering them. I wish I could help you. Have you

looked thoroughly into the nerve treatment you are going to have? When was

the date of your surgery? I know that I vomited for over three weeks. I

thought I would never stop. Finally I stopped vomiting but I could only eat

one-fourth of a grilled cheese sandwich for quite a while when I arrived

home. I was able to slowly increase the amount but I had to take it very

slowly. I had pain also when I came home but I could tell that it was just

pain from the surgery and not from my pancreas. When I would become hungry

the pain would worsen. Eating my small amount of food would lessen the pain.

Soon though the pain subsided. I sure do hope you improve and feel great

soon.

I received a post from Kay the other day. I don't think you know her since

she was in the group I think before you joined. She had the surgery and she

wrote me that she is doing great. I don't understand why some people do so

well and others have problems. Please take care of yourself and let me know

how you are and what happened to you in the hospital to cause your condition

to worsen. Love, Shirley

Hello

I was a member a couple of years ago. Thought I'd drop by and see how

everyone is. I am the mother of 3 kids, Bri 14; 12 and 9.

has CF and Down Syndrome. She is doing quite well. Last year it was

determined that she is pancreatic sufficient and was taken off of the

enzymes. Is there anyone else who does not take enzymes?

Hello to all.

It is SO nice to hear from you. I have wondered about you many times

through the years. Welcome Back.

Question for you, what tests did they do regarding being

pancreatic sufficient? I ask primarily because I know through my work

that kids with DS tend to be overweight and plump, which can certainly

make someone appear " pancreatic insufficient " whether they are or are

not. It also might make the issue of needing to feed the kids high

fat diets a bit of a problem, since it is recommended that kids with

DS get portion controlled, low fat, low carb diets to avoid obesity

which can lead to heart problems... I always wondered if this causes

contradictions ...and which way you have to go. Alot like those with

diabetes and CF, I guess.... non CF diabetics have such a restricted

diet....

Well anyway, just wondering how they determined that (ie, fecal fat,

or whatever that test Torsten says they use in Germany...?)

Take care and I am so glad to hear that the kids are doing ok. I have

to say, though.....I never dreamed that was already 9 years

old!!!!!

Yes, of course, I remember you. I just don't remember you having so many

kids!!! We did some new test on then for a back up did the 3 day

fecal fat test. We have always suspected this. She never really had bowel

problems other than severe constipation, which is probably due to the downs.

Her weight is ok, she is 49 " and 55 lbs. She s a slow gainer but seems solid

to me. I call her my little porkchop. Her appetite is good, but does not

like any sweets, only ice cream and choc chip cookies. No candy. I don't

worry about her diet, I let her eat what she wants when she wants it. Her

lungs are good and the sinuses are under control.

We have never identified her mutation, we also have not tried to in a few

years.

Glad to be back,

Hi everybody,

some months ago I introduced myself to this mailinglist. That was when I was

still living in Prague, in the Czech Republic. Now I am back home in Germany

and finally also my PC is working again and it is so great to read all your

emails again.

My daughter had just her real first cold and it was really a nightmare since

she kept throughing up basically all the food she ate. The doc said there is

nothing one can do about it and that it is not due to CF?! Well now she is

fine again and actually for the first time in her life there were moments

where she could not wait to get her bottle! So at least she made up for all

the precious gramms she had lost while being ill. She is 16 mo, 75 cm and 9

Kg.

Hi Tana,

How great to meet you. I am glad the cold went okay. The first one is

the worst, I think. I remember feeling like this was the beginning of

the downhill ride, but it wasn't.

Do you live anywhere near Torsten?

Are there any other people from Germany on the list?
