Guest guest
Donna, I have a problem swallowing quite often, although it seems to me that it seems to get stuck more in my throat then down lower.....Figured it was the fibro! It is very scary when it happens....I get it from drinking too..guess I should have it checked......Not sure there is anything that can be done for it though..... Take care.... Guest guest
Donna, I do have some problems with the swallowing too, sometimes I can be eating and it seems the food stops going down my throat, I have to drink a lot of water to keep it going down and sometimes my meds feel like they are still in my throat after I swallow them. Audie Swallowing Hi Everyone, I have a question for anybody (or everybody) lol! I sometimes have trouble swallowing. I don't choke per se, but rather, it gets 'clogged' halfway down my esophagus (sp) and it's very painful. You can breathe, but the pain in your chest is tremendous. I have had some horrible tests done because of this and according to those, the peristalis muscles that work to move your food down when you swallow are only functioning at 10% (if I " m remembering that correctly). Now this doesn't happen often, but often enough to be a pain. Nobody knows why this is happening, but my guess is, it's tied to the Fibro. So, I want to know if anyone else has this too? My sis has Fibro also and she has this problem. Anyone else? Oh and it seems that stress while eating will trigger one of these awful attacks. They last about 2-5 long, long, minutes. Sometimes my chest is sore afterwards. Thanks for sharing anything. Donna

Guest guest
Donna~ I have this problem due to a medication that causes dry mouth or which I call cotton mouth. =-) When I have an extremely dry mouth it is so hard to swallow dry things such as bread for instance. It's so annoying.Well, I do hope they can find something out soon, it's no fun being in the dark! Take care. ~ ---------------------------------

Guest guest
Audie, Yes, I know what you mean. The only difference is, I can't swallow anything, let alone water. It's like the opening to my stomach has just clamped off. It's horribly painful and there is nothing they can do about it. :-) Which is a real pain to me (no pun intended) lol Donna " C. Guest guest
Well, I had a scope done and they didn't find anything. That's when I had to have that awful test done where they put sensors down your nose into your throat and then into the stomach, all the while measure your muscles ability. That's where the 10% usage of the esophagous came into play. IT seems that stress will bring it on in a heartbeat. Guest guest
, I've been told nothing can be done about it. But so far, no doctors have connected it to Fibro. It seems there is a lot of things wrong with me that have not been connected to the Fibro but you all have too, so you have to wonder? Guest guest
I too have had this happen and it is scary, or I will just go to swallow saliva and it feels like I can swallow and I have to take a drink really quick, it feels like when they give you something for pain and your mouth goes so dry you cannot swallow. Guest guest
Or have you ever had your brain 'forget' how to swallow? For a second you just sit there waiting trying to figure out how to do it! Then it comes back. This is different than having it get 'stuck' halfway down. But scary all the same.
