Guest guest
The subject of dental work and infections makes the rounds on this sight quite regularly and I usually put my two cents in, as it's something I'm pretty concerned about too. Mr. Treacy did my surgery and I asked him whether I should use antibiotics when going to the dentist. He wasn't very concerned about it. I think in England antibiotics aren't used as often as over here in the states. My dentist didn't seem too concerned either and said something about people being afraid of law suits. He got out his information, and it recommended antibiotics the first two years after surgery for any dental work, then after that only for root canals, extractions, etc. I've decided for myself not to take medication for tooth cleaning even though bleeding does occur. I'm past the two year mark and my mouth as well as my general health is good. I am just as concerned with the overuse of antibiotics as I am about infections. I believe too many meds can weaken the body's natural defenses making you more prone to infections down the road. I guess it's just one of those things where everyone has to make a choice and abide by it. I would definately take meds for root canal, extraction or any infection in the mouth. Other than that, healthy diet, exercise and taking good care of your teeth surely go a long way in preventing problems.
