dear all,

Since a couple of months i m walking with braces but the dilemma now

is the new one doesnt go into shoes so i m not allowed to drive my car

anymore. ( i m in extreme pain when the foot flexes so there is no

option of not wearing it)

I know there are shoes out there some where (seen them on the

conference in Philly) that have splints integrated into the shoe

itself (making it look like a high top basketball shoe)

I thought the brand making those shoes was Adidas but i can not find

them online ( i m probably not looking for the correct thing)

I need to be able to drive this summer so i m in need of those kinds

of integrated splint shoes.

Does any one know where I can find these, or if there are other brands

selling shoes that have splints integrated that put your foot/ankle in

a 90° fix position

I m not currently receiving list mail. I m in the mids of school exams

and i m in way over my head so please please if you have any info on

this could you please email it to my addy

I d really appreciate any help I can get

thanks a bunch

Ina

Hi Ina,

You are thinking of my Adidas or Adipromed shoes.

My shoes say Adidas (model is called " Stabil " ),

but I remember that the newer ones said something

else, and I really think it was Adipromed. They

come from Germany as the Adidas shoes.

These are obviously orthopedic, medical type

shoes. An orthopedic company should be able to

get them. They make lots of models, the ones I

have and several others, up to a full up to the

knee boot which can do the job of a cast. Do you

still work at such a company? Could you contact

the company you used to work for? Do you read

German? If you do, maybe you could do some

searches of German yellow pages too to find the

company itself?

I went to Google and did a web search for

Adipromed. I got several hits. Hope you read

German (if not use the translate feature in

Google, it is not perfect but it works):

http://www.ot-forum.de/e3125/userThreadShow?tid=518

(some Orthopedie Teknik forum discussing them)

http://www.orthopaedie-berneis.de/src/arzt.htm

This company seems to sell these shoes!

http://www.schievink.com/06.htm Here they are!!!!

At least some, including the boot...

http://www.kistner-schuhtechnik.de/adipromed.htm

And here they are again... :)))))

http://www.bellnet.de/suchen/gesund/medizin/orthopae.htm

Some medical site mentioning them

http://www.aerztekammer-bw.de/25/10praxis/90allgemeinmedizin/0307.pdf

And article where they are featured, about foot

problems, running, using these shoes etc. I think

http://www.federatie-pas.nl/images/komtvanPASokt01.pdf

Again and article " This shoe is art " or something

like that, tells about the shoe and how it works,

I think

I'll stop now. That'll get you going. I got 154

hits. Your problem was probably just that you

searched for Adidas, and they used to be called

that before they changed the name for their

medical line of shoes, I think.

I hope you can get yourself a pair, they are

really great shoes. But, remember that the

stabile model does not include a splint that

locks the joint from up and down motion (90

degree), even if they do support some, they do

not lock like that. The splints are on the sides.

But I am sure that other of the models will

provide support also like that, but you may have

to move on to some of the more advanced models,

if you need the splint to be that stiff. I have

had a lot of trouble that my calf bones have been

sliding forwards on top of my foot (don't know

how else to explain it), and subluxate that way.

The Stabile boot did give support for that

though, but the velcro's had to be tightened well

(it has laces at the bottom and velcro's further

up). Just be sure to get the right model for your

problem. Maybe one of the articles go into such

things, I don't know. But if you get hold of the

company, they should be able to answer these

questions...

Good luck on finding a pair and with your exams

too!!! Let us know how it goes and how it works

for you, will you?

I'm copying this to your mail as well as to the

list, in case others are interested as well...

PS! Funny e-mail addy you have, what does ortho

have to do with beer, he-he... I guess that

students often drink a lot of beer, but... :)
