Mike,

Thanks! I'll be looking forward to seeing you. Just give me a ring when you

get close bye. Just go straight through Springfield on 95 North, lots of

construction there! Just keep going straight, don't get on 495, beltway.

Stay straight on 95 and it will turn into 395. My exit will be the second

Glebe Rd. exit on the right, a couple of miles before Washington, DC. Call

and I'll give you directions from that point on. I'm about a mile and a half

from the Glebe Rd exit. Basically come up Glebe Rd. A few stoplight up from

there you will come to an intersection, Columbia Pike and Glebe Rd, just

keep going straight for 2-3 blocks. Turn left on 8th St. S, big church on

the corner, I live 3 1/2 blocks down, 3834 8 the St. S. on the left. It's a

white old Cape Cod style. Small lighthouse flag hanging from the porch,

turquoise Blazer in the driveway, a beat up old OLDS in the front of the

house, very UGLY! See you all soon!!!

Love, S.

--------------

First, not only do I have EDS, so do my daughter (Barb Uggen-)

and her husband Kerr. Second, I went back to night school in

February 2001 for a year long program to become a Licensed Massage

Practitioner in the state of Washington. My reason was to learn

what I could for pain management for my family. After graduating

and getting my license, I went on an intensive, extensive crash

program of continuing education courses. Among other things (to

name just a few of the courses), I took Lymphatic Drainage Therapy,

Cranialsacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, Polarity Therapy, Zen

Shiatsu, Jin Shin Do Acupressure, and Visceral Manipulation. Like I

said, that is not an all inclusive list.

During all of this, I started developing some theories about the

application of some of the " energy based " Eastern modalities for

symptomatic management of pain and other problems associated with

EDS without having to constantly resort to surgery and drugs. I

finally reached a point a year and a half ago where I no longer

wanted to keep working in the business world because it was

interfering with what I was doing with my " other thing. " So I

retired. And got VERY heavily involved with the CEDA list in a

capacity of informal advisor on alternative and complimentary

therapies.

Last October, we bought a used RV. We took off mid-May on the first

of three long trips this year around the United States to give me a

chance to actually test some of my theories. I can't test them if I

am unable to work on people with the actual conditions.

So, in answer to your question, we are currently on day 50 of what

will be about an 80 day trip to do just that. I put out a post that

basically said " Have Table, Will Travel ... Who Wants Me to Stop

By? " We have been bouncing from hither to thither and yon since the

21st of June. To date, I have put in close to 150 hours of hands-on

work on over 70 people. In doing so, we have clocked in excess of

10,500 miles (and expect to hit 16,000 by the time we get home), and

been through 33 states so far. By the time we finish the third trip

in November, we will have been into all 48 of the lower 48 and put

on probably 25,000 miles on the RV.

Do I have any answers? In some cases, absolutely. In other cases,

I think I just ended up with even more questions. Take a look at

post 53516 to get a clue as to what I mean by that. I have,

however, also gotten the attention of at least one key figure at the

National Institue of Health and have been asked to attend two days

of meetings at the end of August at Hopkins and Kennedy Krieger

in Baltimore on the subject of " energy medicine. "

So - that's what I have been doing while visiting all these areas.

If your curiosity is now really tweaked, go back through the posts

from the time of the EDNF conference in Buffalo. Start with

my " Conference Post " and then follow up with some of the posts from

folks I have seen along the way. Keep an open mind when you do

because some of it is a bit difficult to accept if you don't. All I

can tell you is that every bit of it is real.
