Hi, I had a hip resurf on the NHS on 2nd June. I am 40 and live in Kent. I was originally due to have a total hip replacement but kept opting out when the date for op came through. I was fortunate that my GP knew about resurfacing and referred me to the nearest surgeon doing this type of hip. My advice is to go to your GP and get him to do the work!!!! I waited seven months. With government rules now in place you should'nt have to wait more than nine months. Take care Cherylx
Guest guest
No problem, just get a referral from your Doctor for a surgeon. I am in Launceston, Cornwall. Sheila. Guest guest
Hi Mr Fordyce carries out the BHR on the NHS at the kent and sussex hospital, otherwise ask your gp to see a surgeon who does it, don't have anything done by anyone you're not happy with, remember it's your choice at the end of the day! Guest guest
I too am wondering about the chances of resurfacing on the NHS. Having broken my hip 14 years ago and repaired using a DHS, this was then removed some 4 years ago after it started to give trouble, now arthritis in the hip is progressing. After 4 operations on it already the next stage has been said to be hip-replacement, but the concept of resurfacing sounds a lot more attractive given the long term viability of a THR and second THRs.. Has anyone experience of resurfacing under the NHS? Living some 20 miles away from Cirencester (the UK HQ of Corin) would be a pity if it were not available here in the South West of the UK. Guest guest
I'm being resurfaced by Mr Latham at the Wessex Nuffield on Fri 2nd July. Although I am fortunate in that I have insurance that will cover most of the cost (CIGNA), I believe that Mr Latham also does NHS work in Southampton. You will get details by running a Google search, I'd imagine. Good luck! Guest guest
PANKS: Hi Panks: Resurfacing is available on the NHS and is NICE approved. If you live in Exeter or Taunton you are potentially facing predudice and an information black hole. Bristol and Plymouth and possibly Western general are your best bets. Ask your doctor to refer you. Be insistant and get PALS involved Patient Advisory Liason service, very helpful. Get their contact info from NHS direct.
