Guest guest
Being something of a daredevil and liking to live life on the edge I have discovered a brand new dangerous and extreme sport to participate in - extreme TV watching! Yep, you've guessed it yours truly has only gone and damaged another body part whilst merely sitting in front of a television.... There I was happily laid on my bed, viewing University Challenge and realising how incredibly thick I am, when I realised my knee was hurting in a really strange way. I had my right leg slightly bent up and angled inwards a little in a pretty usual " lounging in bed " position, but when I looked at my knee the ligament at the back of my knee was incredibly tight and at a funny angle. Feeling a bit concerned I tried to move my leg only to be greeted with a resistance and a severe stab of pain in my hip area. Somehow from just sitting on the bed watching TV my hip had slowly slipped right out of socket and was now stubbornly objecting to the idea of returning " home " ! I couldn't believe it. If I have bee doing something active or silly I wouldn't have minded, but sitting on a bed is usually a pretty safe pastime....not any more it seems! It was horribly painful, but with help from both parents providing push, pull and rotational traction we finally managed to get it to crack back in position - accompanied by some impressive squeals that I'm sure the neighbours will be gossiping about today! Sleep was very hard to come by afterwards and I am still very sore now. So I'm carefully propped up on my sofa, drugged up on pain meds and wondering whether I dare try watching TV again without a bubble wrap suit, crash helmet and safety belt.... Anyway, I just wanted to warn all my fellow daredevils out there about this new thrill seeking activity - attempt at your own risk! Take care and know I'm thinking of you and sending lots of good wishes. Love and hugs....Jo xxx
Guest guest
Oh Jo, how you manage to keep your great sense of humor is beyond me! How I admire your spunk and perseverance! I'm so sorry that your body seems to object at the most minor things! I wish, truly, that I could exchange one of my legs for one of yours so that you could have just one (not horrible but slightly damaged-repaired ACL) leg to walk on! It just doesn't seem fair to me that some like myself are so lucky in comparison to someone like yourself that has to deal with pain and dislocations on a daily, sometimes hourly basis!! I will have you in my thoughts and prayers, Jo, that NOTHING else goes wrong for at LEAST a month! It may be wishful thinking, but I'm going to ask for it nonetheless! Always keep that beautiful upbeat personality of yours, Jo, it will carry you so far! My wish for you is that it carries you to your wildest dreams and beyond! Guest guest
Ohh OUCH Jo! This does really 'smart'. My R hip has been doing this to me since I was 9 yrs old. It always seems to happen when I'm relaxed lying in bed, or sometimes when I get up off of a low seat. I found that staying lying flat, trying to relax, and gently rocking a bit helps everything clunk back. How are you feeling now? I hope you're not suffering in too much pain hun! Owchies for sure.... Take it easy, and maybe we need to set you up with a less exciting television show LoL ;-) Big (((HUGS))) and hoping you feel better by tonight -Rhea
Guest guest
Jo: I'm so sorry to hear of this almost unbelievable episode. How very dismaying this must have been for you. My heart goes out to you with all that you've been through and your supreme effort to deal with these dislocations amazes me beyond words. I do know how very easily my daughter's hips dislocated (sans pain) during Dr. Grubbs expert initial examination so I can absolutely see this occurring accidentally. I can't imagine knowing how to reduce it on your own......amazing and so, so gutsy. The absolute courage you and so many in the CEDA members display daily would put many an Olimpian to shame. You are amazing.
