Guest guest
Hi , I found out about resurfacing through an emergency room doctor who went to Dr. De Smet. The first orthopod I went to was the typical type I had worked with since the mid 60's. The second orthopod (who did a friend's mother-in-law's knee) gave me detailed pros and cons, admitted he was extremely knowlegable. And said his friend had the procedure and he was impressed. His friend was the ER doc. After talking to the ER doc and noting all the intelligent questions to ask, the final thing was " When you find the right doc, you will know it and go with your gut.) I finally had insurance and a good internist, which gave me more options. The thought of going to another county when I live in Menlo Park, Ca was as overwhelming as the surgery itself. Anyway, my internist sent me to a third orthopod whom I checked out with a local hippy. The third orthopod (specializes in hips) told me what he did, the cons to resurfacing, and the name of his good friend whom he trusted since they went to med school. The friend Dr. Schmalzried. Once evaluated, I fell in love and as a long time teaching radiologic technolgist KNEW that this was the right place for ME. I love the character of an old hospital and the people were all so accommodating. The reason I gave you the complete version is because the the decision is life altering. I went into surgery with NO FEAR KNOWING THAT I AM HEALED. Good luck and you will make the right decision for you.
