Guest guest
Dear Mark, I am 20 days post-op with Dr. DeSmet, so I would be happy to answer any more questions you have. Guest guest
Hi Mark, I think many of us are on, or will be on the look out for the t-cell stuff........... I could well do with it now to help with my back etc joint problems............... However so much of this medical development stuff is so very very slow....... Just think about how long it has taken your country to embrace resurfacing and that has been around in reality for 10 + years......... There are bound to be a whole range of issues with using t-cells as well that will require years of testing even from the moment someone figures out how to make it 'just happen'............. and then a range of competing interests to the directions it takes such as growing new organs or fix up jobs etc............. providing money for completing research and development etc.......... possible costs of having a 'cure' this way etc..........getting insurance cover etc........... I used to dream that something would come along that would reverse my fusion with an injection into the bone there that would cause the memory of the hip joint to happen............. After all people always happily tell one that all the bone in a body is replaced every 6 years - so why couldn't it remember and put it back how it was...........smile. However these days I am just very happy there existed one surgeon who had the ability to do it manually and let me get the direction of my life back into my hands. Edith LBHR Dr. L Walter Syd Aust 8/02 > Thanks for your comments. > I totally agree with you when you say " Just watch the football enthusiasts get to 50 and you will see what I mean. " Your comments, plus what I've heard from Judy and Pam have given me the insight I was looking for to make up my mind. The only thing that sometimes bothers me is the fact that something related to the regeneration of cartilage is on the way. I really believe that in the next 5 or 8 years we will see something on t-cells and other stuff (soon, experiments will be conducted with old people to grow teeth -- denture will be history). It would be interest to know if resurfaced people will be able to remove the implant and grow natural bone and cartilage. But as my friend Judy said, life is about risks and choices and I think I am going to take mine. And as she also said: " Life is too short--go for it. " > Thanks for your adivice. > Mark. >
