Guest guest
Hi Tim: Is it to late to have a resurfacing done? The reason I am saying this is when I came back from England after resurfacing the first hip, I took my x-rays to a local famous ortho and he looked at my x-rays and I thought he had " lost it for a moment. " He took me by the hand a ran to his office and said e-mail Dr. Treacy for me I am going over there. We did and he could not contain his excitement. He was planning on going to England with me when I had the second hip done. But by the time I was ready to go he had already talked with Treacy and he was a happy camper and got 50 devices from the FDA. He also told me that this surgery you had done does not work very well candidate or not. He did not even want to do hemi anymore so this is why he was so excited about the resurfacing. I believe, if you can somehow get the statistics on this hemi surgery and determine that it does not work so well and put it up against resurfacing you could probably make this Dr. Beaule pay for you to have the resurfacing done. I believe the success rate on hemi is not 99.9% like it is on resurfacing. If hemi is about 65% then you have a good case. I believe Dr. Beaule, if it was his hip, would have had resurfacing. Did this Dr. Beaule have the approval by the FDA to do resurfacing??????. I don't like to be the bearer of bad news but it is better to know than not to know what you can or cannot do. I would e-mail your x-rays to Dr. Treacy and get an opinion from him. Maybe I am all wrong about this because I do not know hemi procedure. But, I would be willing bet, after listen to doctor after doctor that saw my ex-rays, they would do resurfacing. I even had doctors, nurses, editors, etc., ride quite a few miles to see my x-ray's. If you want to talk please feel free to e-mail me. Remember, I was one of the early ones (2000) having it done in England so the interest was high. Guest guest
Hi Chris: You don't need to do anything but get yourself a passport and send Mr. a copy of the x-rays. I flew from Orlando to Newark right straight to Birmingham England and about 10 minutes to the hospital. I left England a few days after surgery and sat in a bulkhead seat with my little cane and could get up and down to use the bathroom easily even in the small quarters. I came home and in three weeks threw the cane out and in six weeks was totally out of muscle discomfort. Someone in England once told me that you can almost watch yourself heal after resurfacing. It happens at a rapid speed. I am a strong believer in Mr. Treacy because when I asked him if I needed to get a doctor when I got home; he said you will not need one. How wonderful. When I went to England to have my first hip done I was scared to death. When I went back for the second one I was actually laughing and visiting all the US people. All I heard was, gee why was I so afraid. 35 to 40 minute surgery in England. Rehabilitated is walking up and down the stairs in the hospital (2 days after surgery) makes worry so much easier. There is no big crutches and rehab programs required after surgery in England. In US, money, money, money when it is not necessary.
