Guest guest
Im just trying to stress my belief that right now your #1 priority is to get you baby the care he needs because he's not getting it now. The rest can take care of itself later, but his feet cannot be delayed after this many months of improper treatment - he's headed for a disaster and I can say that cuz I went through it with my own kid. There is a window of opportunity your child has and after this age your window is shutting! There is a program called Angel Flights, very helpful in providing transportation for kids who need far away doctors. There is the Mc House to stay in once you arrive. Probaby stay in Iowa City for a few weeks, then finish out from home with just a few follow up appts. at first, then they become annual. I agree! We had serial casting from the time was 4 days old with a non-Ponseti doctor. It was terrible. He cried in pain each time the casts were put on and he had a huge bruise on his ankles from where the doctor tried to force his foot into position. Then he wore the Markell shoes, without a bar, for a month and when we went back his feet had relapsed, well, actually they were never corrected. By this time was six months old. Then he sent us to a " pediatric specialist " who scheduled for major corrective surgery on his feet. The surgery would've meant three hours under anesthesia while they rearranged his bones and put pins in them. We took the summer off to travel and when we came back and the surgery was all scheduled I went on line and found Dr. Ponseti's site. I came to this group and they convinced me to try a Ponseti doctor first. I e-mailed Dr. Ponseti looking for a doctor in Maine, there were none. We found a Shriner's Hospital 4 hours away that had a Ponseti doctor that Dr. Ponseti knew and recommended. Dr. POnseti even called me and reassured me that my son's feet could still be corrected even at 10 months of age. I had to wait three weeks for an appointment at Shriner's. We took Angel Flight (I can't recommend them highly enough) to Massachusetts every week for six weeks. After 6 casts was scheduled for a tenotomy, which they did with anesthesia. It took 20 minutes and one stitch. Now his feet are corrected, he's 13 months old now, and he's wearing the shoes and dbb. It has been an extreme hassle, but so worth it. The difference in treatment with a Ponseti doctor is like night and day. He's had no pain from the casting, no bruising, just gentle correction of his bones. His feet look like a normal baby's feet and I was beginning to think that would never happen. And it only took 6 casts. Now we go back in a month and after that it'll be less often. I'm so glad I found this group and Dr. Ponseti. and 11/10/03 bilateral clubfeet dbb 23/
Guest guest
, I do have 20 days of PTO time coming to me in January. Dr. is doing an MRI on Logan the 20th of December. He thinks since both of Logan's feet have cavus's on them that something else could be wrong. That is why i asked about him rolling over. Just worried. He said he does the Ponseti Method but does not use the hard cast just soft cast. Logan does not seem to be in pain. I have already had on referral from and White to Texas Chrilderns Hospital in Houston. i seriously dont think my insurance will give me another one. It was hard enough to get them to send this one. What is the web site to the Angle Flights? How does all of this work? House? I have never been on a plaine. OH scary but for Logan i would do anything. Thanks for everything. a Logan 07/12/04 bicf (serial casting) onemorebb tristan2@...> wrote: Im just trying to stress my belief that right now your #1 priority is to get you baby the care he needs because he's not getting it now.
