Guest guest
Hi everyone! I am a mom of two great little ones. My daughter Madison is 3 1/2 and our little guy, JOhn is 14 months. was born with severe bilateral clubfeet. He was casted within 2 hours of birth and was casted continuously until 8 months. He now wears orthopaedic shoes and attends physiotherapy. We are having some setbacks with . His feet are both really inverting (left more than the right). He does not walk and is below the 5th percentile for milestones. He is also having trouble with muscles in his legs that he just is not using. We are now being referred to Toronto Hospital for Sick kids as they have a clubfoot clinic there. I hope I am welcome to join your group! Guest guest
, Welcome, welcome welcome!!!! We welcome all, so that would also include you. Casted until 8 months!! That sounds like a bad situation. Sorry, I don't want to alarm or scare you, or jump down your throaght for that matter, but casting shouldn't take more than 6-8 weeks at the most! So please let me ask you about your doctor. It doesn't sound like he is following the Ponseti Method. Has your son had any surgeries? Are you familiar with the Ponseti Method? The Ponseti method (very brief) is serial casting for 5-6 weeks changing them every week with manipulation of the feet before the new casts are applied, then a minor surgery called a tenotomy where they cut the achilles tendon, then a 3-week cast, then shoes and bar (DBB) to hold the correction. His feet should be fully corrected after the casting and the DBB is worn to hold the correction as they grow. Please give us more information on the treatment he has had thus far and we will surely guide you in the right direction. Hang in there, you have come to the right place. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! I just have to say this..8 months of casting? That sounds as though it is way to much. Was it continuous casting? Mommy to (12-17-98) and Christian (1-30-04) LCF - DBB 23/7 _____ From: johnsmommy7 Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2004 7:20 AM To: nosurgery4clubfoot Subject: New Here!
