Guest guest
Hi Donna! You explained the US and dates correctly, but I wanted to add that in our large hospital, the Dr's give 2 due dates (recorded in the patients prenatal record). One is due date according to the first day of the last period and the other is the due date according to US measurements. There is a place for subsequent US dates and the weeks gestation that the baby is measuring on that particular date. Most people of course just have two US so that is all that is usually recored to gauge the baby's growth and development. These dates and sizes combined with fundal height and leopold's maneuvers help them estimate fairly accurately how big the baby *may* be. Of course, size doesn't have an effect on lung maturity, but it helps them decide if the women can deliver vaginally. What hospital do you work in the ER? I worked ER for over 13 years before finally getting tired of the S.S.-D.D. patients. lol I decided that I needed *something* different to make my life/personality/future a much happier one. I considered leaving nursing altogether and took some business/finance and asset management classes and am working toward getting my life & health, mortgage and securities licenses now. I changed from ER to OB (L&D- NICU) over three years ago and I just absolutely love going to work, love work while I'm there and just think it's amazing that I get to help bring God's little miracles into the world..... and they even pay me for it!!! After 13+ years in the ER, I'm now just content to watch it on TV on Thursday nights now. My best friend is still in the ER and just sitting around listening to our stories and tales makes me so thankful everyday that I am out of there! lol Of course, even though most days were the same (clinic pts-chronic pts-multiple individual/family visits) I did like the *unknown* aspect of what was going to come through the door next. Just when you think you've seen it all in the ER, something else comes along and you are just as *amazed* or *perplexed* (same thing happens on OB too! lol) Not to give away what state I'm in (lol- KY & WV) but one of my patients husband told me yesterday that they were there because " the Dr wants to seduce her to start her contraptions " . lol How can I not have fun here? lol Nice to meet you, Sheila Sheila
