My miscarriages came in the 80's and few doctors even knew about pcos

at that time - The explination to me was well 35 % of all pregnancies

end in miscarriage and most women do not even know they were pregnant

at the time. I was young and stupid and accepted this even though I

wanted an explination. I had many PCOS symptoms at that time and they

should have diagnosed me! ( Hairy face - over weight - irregular

periods and observation of a cyst on the ovary 5 years earlier during

an exploritory surgery - I later became very insulin resistant) My

father actually diagnosed me in 1997 when he read an artical in a

medical journal. I then searched for a doctor dealing with PCOS and

it was confirmed - he also told me that this is probably the reason I

had miscarriages.

During my unsuccessful quest for fertility I was taking 5x the normal

dosage of chlomid with no success and then under went a surgical

proceedure called ovarian drilling where they drill through the

existing cysts (sort of like poping a zit I think) in order to allow

new folicals to develop and fresh eggs to release. This improved my

hormones and insulin resistance but was not enough to concieve

although I was ovulating. I became frustrated with whole process and

gave up on trying. It just wasn't working for me! That is when I

decided to have WLS(and the 35 lbs I gained through the fertility

process) Now 6 months post op with only 1 possible night of

conception here I am pregnant and thrilled but so aprehensive. I am

37 and know I am running out of time to keep trying should this

pregnancy be unsuccessful. The doctor says that my hormone levels are

PREFECT and I go in monday for a vaginal ultra sound.

A book On PCOS I would recomend is actually called PCOS the hidden

epidemic by: S.thatcher M.D.,Ph.D. They talk about

ovarian " pie section " what I had was a more modern less invasive

laproscopic version of that. Good luck my prayers are with you. -

Diane
