I had an amnio with my first pregnancy due to low triple screen, and I also had

one with this pregnancy due to advanced maternal age. Termination of either

pregnancy was not a motive in either one. I felt a strong desire to know what

to expect at delivery. If I was going be blessed with a special needs baby I

wanted to be as prepared as possible. There are many things that can be done

for a baby prior to delivery and mental preparedness is just as important as

physical. The decision is totally yours and your husbands but the worry for the

next several months can also place a great strain on your unborn son. Good Luck

and I will say my prayers for you. Terri

I know alot of people dont agree with getting an

now I am 20 weeks prego. Now even thou having an amnio scares me.

The not knowing if there is something wrong with my baby is gonna eat

at me the last 4 months. I figure if there is something wrong and

they find it in the amnio and I can research it and know what I will

have to deal with.

Hon, you have to weigh all the options. I tend to be one of the folks who

don't encourage amniocentesis, but I will tell you something -- if an amnio

will help ease your mind, then the minimal risk that the procedure poses

might be outweighed by the risk that your constant worrying throughout the

pregnancy would have an adverse effect on your little boy. I used to say

that line about why amnio if you wouldn't terminate, but I don't agree with

that anymore. If there's a legitimate reason, having an amnio can be a

tremendous help in preparing for what might be to come. What if your baby

had a condition which could be repaired by prenatal surgery? If your

doctor is that crass about the whole thing, you might want to consider

seeing someone else who will actually TREAT you instead of making rude

generalizations.
