Guest guest
a, I know that a number of people from Texas travel to St Louis, Missouri to see Dr Dobbs. He practiced in Iowa with Dr Ponseti for many years before going to MO. From all I hear, he is an exceedingly experienced and well respected doctor. Another reason to take your son to him... He works out of a Shriner's hospital which means--among other things--that care is provided absolutely free of charge. This includes the shoes, the bars, everything.(Our son Jonah is treated at the Shriner's in Sacramento, CA and we have been astounded by their generosity) I have heard of a few families in TX who have used Angel Flights to fly to MO for free. If one of them sees this, perhaps they could pipe up and let you know how that works. Please let us know if there are other things we can help you with. Only you and your husband can make the medical decisions for your son, but we're here to support you and help you in the decision-making process. We had to borrow money from my dad because Angel Flights would not go as far as we needed (Seattle to Iowa) and had to rely heavily on family to help with the other kids, but we did it. Honestly, if you are dealing with unusual cavus, there are only a handful of doctors that are suggested. There may be one closer to you than Iowa. (searching for Dr P's e-mail that has the info .... ) Okay, here is the confirmed US list: Dr Ponseti, Iowa City, Iowa Dr Mosca, Seattle, Washington Dr Colburn, California (dont remember the city) Dr Herzenberg, (help here, I dont remember!) Dr Dobbs (again, dont remember!) There may be more than that, but that is the confirmed list I have from Dr Ponseti as of July for doctors that are able to correct a foot that is atypical in any way or that has responded badly to previous casting. These are also the doctors that have proven track records with " older " children. Angel Re: Re: Pregnant with twins ok here i go spilling my guts. i know that logan's dr is not ponseti certified but i am having a hard enough time arranging going to Houston every Monday. Logan is in soft cast. i work for a bank that has less than 50 employees and the FMLA does not apply to them.......yea you heard me. i am out of PTO (sick) time. They have already taken me off of salary and put me on the clock. Dh is in construction so the rain has put a damper on things. He has just left Tuesday to go work out of state. How far is Iowa from Central Texas. I want the best for Logan but WHAT DO I DO? the cavas is the top part of his foot. kinda got a hump on them. oh yea and i have the insurance with my job. about $400.00 withdrawn out of my check a month. Guest guest
I'm sorry, who is & White? Is that your doctor? Or your insurance? I don't think they can just tell you " no " on referrals. If the treatment isn't working, you are entitled by law to a 2nd opinion (I think, hehe, at least it sounds good!) A referral is just to ensure you're not going to doctors unnecessarily, to have treatment for something your primary doc can handle. Obviously, these docs can't " handle " Logan's treatment. Maybe you need to get tough with them! Be strong...grrrr :-} , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > You are difinitely in a difficult sittuation.
