Guest guest
Hi, Alice That is certainly a very very good reminder. Personally, I find the information here very helpful, so that I can ask more intelligent questions, understand the docs better, have better use of the time in the docs office, and make better choices, IF and WHEN the docs give me a choice. Of course, finding the right doctor, as you mentioned, is on the very top of this list. In the case of taking thyroxin for thlyroid nodules, that endo clearly left it up to me to decide. He said " You could try a course of thyroxin.... ..........if you want to " and did not give me a recommendation either way. That has happened before to me. So, yes, we need to be careful, but the information here is wonderful, imo. Guest guest
Alice I agree. It might be helpful to keep in mind that we can use phrases like " in my experience " or " you might want to ask your doctor " , etc. This way we aren't coming across as having all the answers. We certainly can gain from the experience of others, but it is still up to the doctors, hopefully along with the patient to make the decisions for each individual. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 14 Oct 2004 09:38:38 -0600 > To: > > Subject: Listen to Your Medical Team > > It's important for all of us to remember that internet searching brings up > good information and education but we also need to remember that our doctors > are our professional advisors. Guest guest
I have to totally agree with this. I would never want to give someone advice and then something terribly wrong happen. That's why saying " in my experience " or " run this by your doctor first " is a great thing to remember. Cindy

Guest guest
Yes, I guess I share my experiences because sometimes I feel alone in having a certain reaction or intolerance for something that " everyone else " does fine with. And it is interesting how vehemently some medical professionals are one way or another, there are no clear cut answers in medicine. YMMV, IMHO apply to all posts (at least mine These are opinions, all in all... Of course the fact that a good many of us are dealing with cognitive issues makes us less likely to grab the correct words and phrases when describing our experiences Take care, RH > It's important for all of us to remember that internet searching brings up good information and education but we also need to remember that our doctors are our professional advisors. Guest guest
I agree completely with Alice. Perhaps it would be a good idea for people to use the phrases " in my experience " , " in my opinion " when posting about personal responses to medical treatments; much like we do with the " NMR or Non Mito Related " in the subject line when a post is off topic.
