Guest guest
Thank you everyone for all of your support. I really need it. I think you all understand so much better than my family does! I had clubfoot surgery back in 78 and am starting to develop some strange pain from it this year. So, I think that is partly what is worrying me so much about Grace needing surgery. I had a much more extensive type though and by looking at me you would think one of my feet was used to practice on! A few people asked questions to me about my post and I am just going to try and remember them all at once. Grace was seen Jan last year because I was terribley worried about how her feet looked and she was not walking normally. She pretty much swung her legs out to the side and pulled her foot forward dragging it on the inside. Also her knees do weird bending out to the side. So we saw Dr Herzenberg and he said her heels had not dropped and to wait because most kids do not walk with a normal gait until age 3. The frustrating part was that he didn't even watch her walk for more than 4 steps from the exam bed to me. I came home feelign like I wasted my time and began taking pictures for Dr Ponseti and that was when I noticed the lumps on Graces feet. I emailed them and Dr Ponseti said it was rockerbottom and that it would get better with walking. I did talk to Annikas mother Lori I believe is her name. Her daughter was casted to try and correct the rocker bottom. Why this was not suggested for us I do not know. I don't think Annika was having any walking problems at all and I believe she was about the same age as Grace. When I spoke to Lori she said her daughters rocker bottom was not visible any longer. I haven't talked to her since then.......January. I would be interested to know if Annika is better now or eventually required surgery. Dr Frick told me yesterday that he will discuss Grace with Dr Ponseti. He said he has asked guidance on a couple of his patients that developed rocker bottom. He said Dr Ponseti advises to leave the rocker bottom alone that it is worse to do the surgery. Dr Frick said he usually watches those children for a year and then if it doesn't get better he does the posterior release. He said he can not see leaving it alone. He would not see Graces feet as being functional this way later in life. On a brighter note Graces forefoot is perfect and straight. She does have no dorsiflexion really on her right. What bit it does move is actually bending at the center of her foot which is not good. I think that is why casting is not suggested at this point becuase I think it would be so hard to bring a bone down that much. Everythign has just tightened up so much from the last two years of her heels never being corrected. We are hanging in here though! I am still very thankful we have managed to avoid the full release surgery and despite all of this Grace has so much else going for her. I really appreciate everything. Thanks again, and Grace Oh, I met another Mommy from this board in the waiting room and hope she posts how her baby boys checkup up went! Guest guest
Hi , My name is Missy and I'm the mommy you met in the waiting room. It took me a while to catch up on your posts as we spent the night in Charlotte with family before driving back home. I'm sorry to hear that your visit didn't go as well as expected. I was thinking of you as we left the dr's office. I was hoping to see you before we left, but it was so hectic!! Everything seemed to be ok with Nate. Dr Frick told us that he didn't see any reason why we would need to come back to him. We had been seeing a dr in Greenville, SC, but I wanted to get a 2nd opinion on his condition. We're 11 days in on the shoes and dbb and we're hoping for the best. I'll keep an eye out for another post about Grace with good news!! Hopefully, the new year with bring promise and good cheer.
