DDB and sleeping arrangements

I have a quick question about the DDB and sleeping arrangements.

Our daughter just turned 2 and she is still in the DDB 12 hours a

day. Right now she is still sleeping in her crib, because I have

been concerned about moving her to her big girl bed. I didn't want

her to fall trying to get in and out in her braces. It's not a

problem for her to sleep in her crib, except we are expecting

another baby in March and want to go ahead and make the adjustment

now so she will not feel displaced by the new baby. Does anyone

have any suggestions about moving her from her crib to her bed while

keeping the braces on. I know this may sound like a silly problem,

but I am concerned. We have hard wood floors and the bar is so

slick and know that sometimes people have ideas that are so much

smarter than anything I can think of. Thanks for your help.

I can't help with the sleeping thing, as we co-sleep with our CF baby

(19mo) but the hardwood floors thing is something I'm familiar with. I pad

the bar with pipe foam, and I can't hardly stand it when it's not there. I

tape it up with cloth athletic tape and it lasts a long time that way. It

also gets pretty good traction with the tape and doesn't damage the

floors. HTH

(19mo) but the hardwood floors thing is something I'm familiar with. I pad

the bar with pipe foam, and I can't hardly stand it when it's not there. I

tape it up with cloth athletic tape and it lasts a long time that way. It

also gets pretty good traction with the tape and doesn't damage the

We've not made it to this step yet.. but I would suggest a sleep rail

for the big girl bed and maybe putting an area rug at the edge of her

bed. Or... you could always go w/ a toddler bed that sits much closer

to the floor.

Kori,

Where do you get that pipe foam (I would guess a HRDW store, but just

want to make sure) and what does it look like. We have HW floors all

throughout the main floor of our house so I will definately need to

pad my little one's bar with something.

Kori,

Where do you get that pipe foam (I would guess a HRDW store, but just

I didnt hear about the pipe foaming ( good idea btw ) so I used foam

chair padding thats found in the fabrics dept at Walmart. I bought

some scrap material and sewed around it, then sewed it onto the bar.

If I can find a picture of is, I'll post it on the CFPics site.

well, let me first say congratulations on the expected birth of you new little

one. How exciting. I totally understand wanting to get your two yr old into the

next bed to make room. I now have 4 little ones and had to force at least two

out of the crib for the next one coming. I also understand your uncertainty when

we have the bar as an added factor.

My daughter is just now over two and I have been wanting to move her to her big

girl bed, which happens to be the lower half of the bunk bed she will share with

her 6yr old sister. I have already tried to move her to the big bed which worked

well the first night. In fact I could hardly believe how good she went down and

did not once get up until moring. Unfortunatly that was the first and last

night. Now she will lie down but 10 minutes later decides she has to get up. I

would not mind the effort of training her to go to sleep in her new bed so much

if only she hadn't figured out how to undo her shoes and take off her bar then

get out of bed! My last try ended in her getting out of her bar, out of her bed

and finding her up and putting on her sandles with the velcro straps, ready for

a new day. She had only been in bed for 15 minutes proir to this.

I gave up with the bed. Putting her bar on once a night is enough for me. So now

she goes back to her crib and cries that she wants her big bed.

I guess I'll try again in a few weeks and see how I cope. lol

Pipe foam does work very well. I think we use 1/2 inch. You can get

it at any home improvement stores (Lowe's, Home Depot, Menard's,

etc.) We then wraped it with the large harness covers made by Graco.

It just velcros around it and fits perfect. It is made of a soft

navy blue fleece material. It has saved our shins, forearms, her own

forehead, and what ever other body parts she can slam her bar into.

Thanks for all of the suggestions about the big girl bed. I know

what you mean . I figure that our daughter will do the same

thing with getting in and out of the bed over and over again. We

have been real fortune that she has only taken her braces off once

or twice, but I am sure that she will figure out that if she takes

them off she can get down out of the bed. We have the pipe foam on

the bar now and it works for the slipping bar, but I have been

unable to figure out how to keep it on the bolts, since that appears

to be what sits on the ground first. I am going to try it this

We moved my daughter to a Fire Engining(Truck)toddler bed instead of,

her big girl twin bed. One reason was because, the big girl bed was

to high off the floor. Another reason, was I found the fire truck

bed to be perfect, it secured her in the bed without having to buy

bedrails (like a crib only with an opening large enough for her to

climb in and out on both sides). She could toss and turn without

hitting the walls, so no dings from the DDB. Not to mention, how she

loves the idea of her bed being a fire truck. Also, I put her crib

bumper around the inside of her fire truck bed to aid as a cushion.

It prevents the DDB from making a noise when it hits the sides. By

the way, her DDB is cushioned with pipe foam.
