My hair and nails have been crappy too, I think my nails be just starting to

look better but my hair is still dry and just a mess where before it was long,

shiny healthy :) I think the surgery does take some life out of it but I have

been told it will come back better in time. I sure hope that is soon. I have

to admit since I have gotten preggers I have seen a slight improvement ao

maybe that is the beginning it coming back to life. The girls on the group have

recommended biotin from the health store and I am going to ask my ob/gyn about

taking it first though. Good LUck,

Hi again... During my other two, full-term pregnancies I noticed that

with the prenatal vitamins (or maybe it was the pregnancies

themselves), my hair and nails would grow so fast. Not this time

around.

I got my hair cut to shoulder lenght in October, became pregnant in

November, and as of today (Feb. of course, lol) my hair has only

grown about 1/2 to 1 inch at the MOST. I'm taking 1 1/2 prenate

vitamins, 1 mg folic acid, extra iron, and 1200 mg extra calcium. It

would seem that with all these great vitamins going in me I would see

quicker hair growth, like I did with my pregnancies pre-WLS.

I guess what concerns me is that the slow hair and nail growth could

be a sign of malnutrition or some other vitamin deficiency. My OB is

doing monthly blood draws and so far everything has come back normal

(low-normal on iron, but for me that is norm). Maybe all my

nutritional energy is going to make sure the baby is well provided

for and my hair and nails are suffering in the mean time... maybe I'm

just paranoid (likely, lol) and there is nothing unusual with my hair.

Some well shed light would be appreciated.

Huggers to all!

Hi Robyn, maybe I should clarify... My hair and nails are actually in

pretty good condition. Both are flexible and strong and bouncy (hair

at least). I lost quite a bit around 6 months post-wls, and it never

did grow back. That's ok tho... I had a lot to begin with and unless

I pull it back tight, you can't tell its thinned.

Anyway, the problem with my nails and especially my hair is that it

just isn't growing longer (cut it when it started falling out so it

would appear thicker). Given that I never grew my lost hair back,

this kind of worries me. Makes me wonder if this is as far as I'm

gonna get and each bit (not a lot falls out now at all just a few

little strands each day) I do lose won't be replaced, nor will I have

the long hair I use to enjoy.

If the length of my hair could match the condition of it, it would be

in good shape. I just want it to grow.

Thanks for the response, maybe the biotin would actually help the

hair to grow and regrow again.
