Sorry, don't know any articles on that, but as a side note, my dad

and many in his family have essential tremor, which can be confused

with Parkinson's but there are a few tests to differentiate them.

His tremors respond to NADH supplementation. YMMV, IMHO, IANAD (I am

not a doctor)...

Take care,

, Someone else may be able to point you to a recent article with

up-to-date info. I haven't done a literature search on this subject for

several years, and when I did, found bits and pieces mentioned in various

articles. Can't recall exact sources at the moment, but will look through my

files. I have two first cousins, a brother and sister, who have Parkinson's.

At one point I sent them some information about the link between complex I

deficiency and Parkinson's and the use of Q10 as treatment for Parkinson's.

Question is whether I kept a copy of the articles or sent them all off. I

will look.

I know Dr. Haas has done a study of Q10 in Parkinson's so perhaps a

literature search (PubMed) for Haas RH may turn up a citation and abstract,

though not full-text.

This is the PubMed link to Dr. Haas' study. I will paste the abstract below.

Full text can be purchased for $17. There are quite a few other articles in

PubMed on this subject, some more recent by Beal MF. Just click on 'related

articles' on the right side of the screen. Once in a while a Google search

will pull up full-text for free somewhere else on the internet. Medscape has

full-text on a limited selection, free for registration.

Hope this helps. Will check my files later today.

A possible role of coenzyme Q10 in the etiology and treatment of Parkinson's

disease.

Shults CW, Haas RH, Beal MF.

Department of Neurosciences, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla

92093, USA.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a degenerative neurological disorder. Recent

studies have demonstrated reduced activity of complex I of the electron

transport chain in brain and platelets from patients with PD. Platelet

mitochondria from parkinsonian patients were found to have lower levels of

coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) than mitochondria from age/sex-matched controls. There

was a strong correlation between the levels of CoQ10 and the activities of

complexes I and II/III. Oral CoQ10 was found to protect the nigrostriatal

dopaminergic system in one-year-old mice treated with MPTP, a toxin

injurious to the nigrostriatal dopaminergic system. We further found that

oral CoQ10 was well absorbed in parkinsonian patients and caused a trend

toward increased complex I activity. These data suggest that CoQ10 may play

a role in cellular dysfunction found in PD and may be a potential protective

agent for parkinsonian patients.

MDA has been involved with some others working on the Parkinson's. My neuro

shared with me that it took at least 1200 mg. per day for any significant

improvement. This was about a year ago, so there is probably some new info.
