Guest guest
My son will have a tenotomy on Nov. 2 when he will be 7 1/2 weeks old. I would like to know what to expect after surgery (i.e. sleepy? hungry?) or any helpful hints. He is breastfed. Anything different to expect in that area? Guest guest
You can expect complete exhaustion after the whole thing is over. I mentioned in an earlier post that I gave my son Tylenol which I don't even know if he needed because he seemed fine when everything was said and done. Good Luck! Guest guest
Our doctor chose to do the tenonomy under general anestesia and when woke up he nursed right away and was his normal self for the rest of the time. He was a little less active for the first day but I do not feel that it was the procedure that slowed him down just the anestetic. We followed up with tylenol for that day and half of the following and he was fine. Nursing and sleeping as usual. They did recomend to keep his feet elevated for the first couple of days but did not like sitting in that position. While they did use a general they also gave him tylenol rectally and the doctor used a local too. The doctor used the term of a " light anestetic " just to prevent stress on from having him feet cut and manipulated. The local was to work for about 6 hours. Even with him being done in the operating room, from start to finish we were at the hospital for 2 and 1/2 hours. It was not bad at all. was 2 months old when the procedure was done. Guest guest
Hi! My daughter had her tenotomy at age 5 months with Dr. Ponseti under local anesthetic. I had prepared a bottle (expressed bm) for them to give her during the procedure/casting. We had given her a dose of baby Tylenol 2 hours prior to the procedure. We gave her one more dose later and that was it. She was fine throughout the whole procedure and recovery. I think I kept her foot elevated for quite a while (rolled up blanket under her cast in the baby carrier). I never noticed any unusual fussiness, lack of apetite etc. It's hard to predict how your little one will do, but I hope that your son won't have any issues at all. Please keep us posted! Guest guest
Like everyone said, it's usually a simple procedure that they seem to tolerate well. I think it's harder on the moms than the kids! I know I was a nervous wreck when my son had his done at 5 months. He was a bit groggy from the drugs (they gave him morphine) but was perfectly fine once he woke up. He didn't nurse right away but he did down some serious apple juice right out of recovery that the nurses gave him. Our hospital just liked to keep him for a few hours for observation and to make sure he was getting fluids. Once he got to the car he was happy and kicking like nothing had happened! We did give him I think two doses of INfants Motrin once we got home and before bed and tried to keep his foot elevated during the night. He had what looked like a lot of bleeding that nearly seeped through the cast, which didn't look so great, but once the cast came off it wasn't anywhere near as much blood as I originally thought. When we'd go places, I didn't care about people seeing the cast but thought the blood might bother them, so I sewed a piece of white rib knit together to make a tube and put that over top. Kept it clean, too, expecially during diaper changes (which is hard to do when you're breastfeeding! LOL) Good luck! 11.23.03 > > > My son will have a tenotomy on Nov. 2 when he will be 7 1/2 weeks > old.
