Jackie,

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I am also 9 months post op and 8 weeks pregnant! I KNOW

exactly what you're going through! Don't freak out!

I have been for my first paper work session with my dr.'s OB nurse. She had

already talked to the dr. and had many good answers for me. I am a military

spouse, so my situation is different from yours, in that I will be seeing only

military docs.

OK, now I was freaking too when I went in and had a huge list of questions.

Really she calmed me down and explained that my labs that I had just had done by

my surgeon looked really good and that I was not low on anything. So she said

to start the prenatals and eat as healthy as possible. They had me to go to a

nutritionist.

Like you my weight loss had slowed and I eat a little more than my other

counterparts. Except for the lady that I had surgery with, she and I eat about

the same. I still have 90 pounds to go, so the baby still has that available

thank God.

It sounds like you're really trying to eat quality food and that's the way to

go! I found Multi Grain Cheerios last week and that has 100% of 10 essential

vitamins and minerals. So it's pretty easy to get in quality food if you just

look for them.

I think the reason I am much more worried about this pregnancy is because I now

know how fragile it can be and so many things can go wrong. When you have your

first you are blissfully ignorant and go through the pregnancy with wonderful

first born dreams of perfection. This is my 3rd time around and my first son

has a learning disability. I worry about a lot of things when it comes to this

child. Give yourself a break and dont' stress out too much! I think a little

worry is normal for all of us. It's what women do best!

Hang in there lady, you'll make it through this...just be grateful that you're

not nauseous like me 24/7. Ha ha.

Oh yeah and as I sat there with my OB nurse, she was so reassuring and calm

about my situation. She said, don't feel sorry for yourself or worry, you've

got it way better than a lot of my patients who are dealing with high blood

pressure, diabetes, toxemia etc. She says the only thing that makes me

different being high risk is that I just need to be monitored more closely. The

label makes it sound worse than it is.

Being 9 Months out the best odds-diet is NOT the best diet for you postop.

You need to eat protein and concentrate on protein. Then add in whole grain

foods. If I am remembering correctly, the Best Odds Diet is extremely carb

heavy. You need more protein than that.

Don't worry too much about your baby being malnourished. If you are eating

well and taking your vitamins you should be okay. It is early at 9 months

out however many women on this list have gotten pregnant far earlier than

that and had healthy babies. Do not concentrate on your weight loss -- you

may still lose during pregnancy -- but rather concentrate on having a

healthy baby. YOur surgeon sounds conservative -- I say this due to wanting

you to see a high risk ob -- it may just be because you are still " obese "

and had the surgery that he is being overly conservative. Do not worry too

much about that okay? Just do what you can.

Hi Jackie! I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I just wanted to write

you to let you know that I am in the pretty much the same boat as you. I had

surgery May 23, 2003. I am 6 weeks pregnant. I, as luck would have it, had an

appointment with my surgeon this week. They were not too worried about my being

pregnant. They really only said that they wished I had waited (to which I

responded that I wish I had to, as it was a surprise). They changed my

vitamins a bit and told me that my OB (High Risk) would probably just run more

labs than normal. I don't see an OB until March. I did however, get scheduled

to see a nutritionist next week. The OB nurse said that nutrition was the main

thing I needed to be concerned with right now. I meet her on March 1 and then

my OB later in March. That worries me, not seeing a doctor for so long; but I

guess they know what they are doing. I try to eat, but I can't eat a lot. I

make sure that I eat my protein first, take 1 prenatal

vitamin, 1 B12, and 2 Caltrate Plus each day. I also throw in some OJ here and

there to be sure I am getting my Folate. I have ordered the What to Eat...

book, but have not received it yet. Is it helpful? I have lost 153 pounds. My

loss had slowed some, but not much, so I am anxious to see what happens now. I

wouldn't worry too much about being classified High Risk. This just means that

they will pay closer attention to you throughout your pregnancy. It is nothing

bad. Just don't worry and enjoy this special time in your life. And know that

you are not alone-- there are others like you out here.

Best wishes,

Lori

Hi There,

My name is Jackie and I am new to this group. I have to say that I

am VERY worried about the health of my baby. I have called my

bariatric surgeon and it has taken him several days to get back to

me. I just got a call saying that I need to see a special High Risk

Doctor. This in and of itself worries me. I went to see my regular

doctor for the actual pregnancy test and he put me on prenatals. He

didn't seem concerned at all about me being pregnant and nine months

out of surgery. I am sort of lucky that I can eat more than most

Bariatric Patients and even before I got pregnant my weight loss had

slowed. I don't feel at all like I am depleted. But, I don't have

an appointment with a regular OB for another two weeks. I am trying

to eat healthy and take my prenatal vitamins but I don't know if my

baby is malnourished? I am so worried and cry about this a lot, it

doesn't seem like I am getting any support or concern from any of my

doctors. If you have any advice pleast let me know. I started at

285 and am now 215, but since I have been pregnant any weight loss

has stopped. I am trying to follow the best-odds diet in " what to

eat when you are expecting " . Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks a lot

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

I too am 6 weeks pregnant and 9 months out of lap rny. I am down

from 250 to 164. My weightloss had also stabalized before we tried

to get pregnant. My bariatric surgeon gave me the go ahead since I

did so well getting my weight off. I also will wait another 2 weeks

to see my doctor for an ultrasound and like you I'm a bit worried

but I also know that that is the worse thing I can do at this point

so I'm trying to take it easy.

I'm nauseous all day. I'm having problems eating and drinking but

I've read posts on this site that says you may lose weight but your

baby will get what it needs - probably from the fat reserves left on

my legs!

I have choosen to go to a high risk OB group because where I live

there are no doctors that have experience with a gastric patient and

I feel better that they will take more precautions for me and the

baby.

I'm due on October 3, 2004. When I can eat I also try to eat

protein just like the prepregnancy days but it does seem like the

carbs are helping me a bit with the nausea. I am an ATKINS follower

so eating some carbs like bread and a potato is about to kill me!

Hope you stay calm and feel better about all this. I'm glad to know

that there is a website where we can be supportive with each other!
